Against All Odds: This Mom’s Dedication For Her Special Child Leads Him To Harvard University

It’s said that mother’s love is the most pious and the pure one can ever witness. It’s the most unconditional and genuine love for her children. In the same demonstration of love, a mother won’t give up on her special child and nurtured him to all the way to Harvard.

Mother, Zou Hongyan, gave birth to her son Ding Ding in the year 1988. Born with acute birth complications, cerebral palsy, doctor and her husband give up the hope as they believed that he won’t be able to live a good life.

Zou Hongyan was sailing against the tide, alone, and was fighting the world. She gave divorce to her child’s father and made it a mission to give her a son a good life. She worked 3 jobs simultaneously to support her small family, including protocol training and insurance sales and played brain-boosting games with her son to stimulate his senses and to build the basics intelligence. She even trained him to use chopsticks when his stiff hand could hardly grip them. “I didn’t want him to feel ashamed about these physical problems,” she told the South China Morning Post. “Because he had inferior abilities in many areas, I was quite strict on him to work hard to catch up where he had difficulties.”

The same boy Ding Ding who was shunned by his own father is a Peking University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and engineering. As of recently, he’s also a Harvard Law student. The mother who gave every ounce of her life we can only imagine how happy she must be to see her son doing so well.
