Shradhha Kapoor Will Be Seen Playing The Role Of Saina Nehwal In The Biopic, And We Wonder Why Not Deepika Padukone

Our sportspersons have made India proud time and again, and Saina Nehwal is one of the stars in the galaxy. The former world champion and the Olympic bronze winner is one of the finest badminton players in the country. Bollywood has already made some brilliant films on the lives of sportsmen and women. Biopics like ‘Milkha Singh’, ‘Mary Kom’, the more recent ‘MS Dhoni’ and ‘Dangal’ have made the audience fall in love with the characters.

And now a movie on the life of badminton star Saina is being directed by the very talented filmmaker-scriptwriter Amol Gupte of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame and we are pretty sure the movie will be an exceptional piece of art. Actress Shraddha Kapoor has been roped in to play Saina in the movie, though we kinda hoped Deepika Padukone would have played the badminton star, considering she herself has been a badminton player.

“Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who’s not just been the world’s No. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon. I can’t wait to start prepping for my role,” Shraddha told ‘The Times of India’

Saina was ecstatic about the news.  “Whoa! That’s news to me. I was aware of the film, yes, but I didn’t know about the casting. It’s great if Shraddha plays me because she is a very talented actress and very hardworking. I am sure she will do justice to the role. The best part is, she is a good friend as well. So it will be easier to teach her some badminton skills (laughs!). A lot of people did tell me that we do look similar and I think that’s a huge compliment because Shraddha is very good looking.”

As much as we love Shraddha Kapoor, we would have loved to see Deepika Padukone play the role. Daughter of badminton star Prakash Padukone and herself a badminton player, Deepika would have been perfect for the role, we think. The leggy lass knows the sport all too well already!
