A.R Rahman badly trolled on Doughter Khatija Niqaab
Music composer king A.R Rahman came under social media criticism after his daughter Khatija took to the stage to talk about her father during the 10-year-anniversary of his Oscar Win for Slumdog Millionaire.
A day later, AR Rahman posted a picture on his Twitter, hitting back at trolls with a caption, “The precious ladies of my family Khatija ,Raheema and Sairaa with NitaAmbaniji He captioned the photo #freedomtochoose”.While Raheema is seen wearing a pink embellished salwar, Khatija wore a burqa to the event. The powerful photo is a loud statement on what Rahman terms ‘freedom to choose’. Khatija, his daughter, is seen wearing a niqab, which covers her face and hair. Rahman’s other daughter Raheema is seen without a veil or headgear, with open hair. His wife, Sairaa, is seen in a hijab, covering just her hair, at the event.
However, several users slammed the legendary composer over his daughter wearing covering her face. They targeted the singer-composer for his daughter’s conservative dressing style. Some Twitter users posted nasty comments here too.
Rahman’s daughter shared a powerful note on her Facebook account justifying her choice of clothes and how it has nothing to do with her family. “I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing,” she said in a Facebook post. “I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour,” she remarked.
Let me tell you that AR Rahman is a Tamil music director, composer, musician, singer and music producer. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for the third highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India. In 2009, Rahman was listed in the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people. He is skilled in Karnatic music, Western and Hindustani classical music and the Qawwali style of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
