On January 17, the sports world remembers one of the greatest boxers in history – Muhammad Ali. Who was born on 17th January in 1942 at Louisville, Kentucky. Ali, who was dubbed ‘the Greatest’, won the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions and successfully defended his title 19 times. He posted an impressive record of 56 wins against five losses, including 37 knockouts, before retiring from the sport in 1981 at the age of 39.

How did Muhammed Ali become boxer?

His father gifted a bicycle to Mohammad Ali. He used to roam his new gift bicycle all day long. But one day it happened that his bicycle was stolen. 12-year-old Ali told the police that he wouldn’t keep the thief alive and asked the police to punish the thief. They had a domestic connection with the police officer. The policeman told him that if you start boxing then only you can take revenge. Since then, he started practicing boxing. The police officer himself wrote in a book that Muhammed Ali made boxing his obsession to punish the thief.

Muhammed Ali was not just a boxer, but he also had a passion for fighting against the evils of society. He wanted to crush the racial mentality in American society. This was the reason why he became Muhammed Ali from Cassius Clay. Once he was refused a table in a restaurant and in lieu of revenge, Ali threw his gold medal. This incidence in his life made him the hater of Christianity and racial differences. Finally, in 1964 he accepted Islam. In the same year in 1964, he publicly embraced Islam. After accepting Islam he changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. With the same name, he became the three-time heavyweight champion. He gave many memorable quotes like “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it—then I can achieve it”.
