‘If I Trend, I Know I’m A Joke’ says John Abraham

Actor John Abraham returns in a new action avatar in the gangster drama Mumbai Saga. He says performing an action scene, to him, is like doing an item song, and adds that he likes working in mass-oriented films because the mass audience has shaped his career.

John Abraham’s Mumbai Saga trailer was unveiled on Friday; the high octane trailer assured that John starrer will be a mass entertainer. To be seen playing Amartya Rao, a deadly gangster on the silver screen during the event, he shared the idea behind signing the film that everyone can enjoy. Recalling about his portrayal of Manya Surve in Shootout at Wadala released in 2013. The actor believes signing such movies makes it more relatable to the audience and these characters are remembered by the audience.
The actor said, “You must do films that relate to a mass audience, not just a few people, probably, sitting in one fancy theatre. I think this film reaches out to the masses. I saw what Manya Surve did for me and, for sure, Sanjay also. This has got relatabality with a very large section of an audience, specially the mass audiences. When you in the interiors of India they really remember these characters, they are memorable.” However, he shared being afraid of online trends, as he knows whenever he trends, he is a joke.
John adds, “When you make films, make it for the people. We try and cater to a very small audience, we get scared of criticism only on the net. The biggest fear in my life is that I am scared to trend (online). If I trend, I know I’m a joke, so I want to stay away from this trend business, and I really want to reach out to the masses.”
Also he feels these trends don’t help movies in its business aspect. Collaborating with Sanjay Gupta for this crime thriller, the actor feels this genre will help filmmakers get back to the masses.
“I think Mumbai Saga is giving us the opportunity to go back to the masses, where we belong. For people like me, my career was made on screens, so why can’t I reach out to them. I will rather go back to them and cater to these audiences. And, I enjoy playing gangster with Sanjay, it is like auto pilot for me,” said the actor.
