Bobby Deol Birthday Special: Have a look at top 5 performances of the actor

The son of Superstar Dharmendra, and younger brother to the He-Man of Bollywood, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol is one of the most popular star-kids working in Bollywood today. While he didn’t exactly attain super-stardom box-office wise, over the years, he has given some of the biggest hits in Bollywood on his own and has also wowed the audiences with his acting. On his 53rd birthday, we will bring you the top five performances of the younger Deol.

1.Class of 83’
‘Class of 83’, which is based on a book authored by leading crime journalist Hussain Zaidi, is set in Bombay in the 1980s when the underworld’s stranglehold on the city was becoming hard to break. Dozens of young men rendered jobless as a result of the ongoing mill strike were being lured into joining local gangs, and the nexus between powerful politicians and criminal gang leaders made it hard for the police to weed out the problem. With this as the backdrop, the film follows an ideological cop-turned-trainer who moulds five cadets into encounter specialists. Marking 25 years in the Industry with this film, Deol was praised for his portrayal of an intense character.

A love story turned into a crime thriller, Humraaz is one of the best Bollywood movies which you can never get tired of watching. Starring Deol, Ameesha Patel and Akshaye Khanna, the movie had everything it needed to be a typical Bollywood masala film – romance, family drama, mystery and a happy ending. It featured Deol in the role of a multi-millionaire Raj Singhania, who marries Priya, a troupe dancer, only to learn that this marriage was a trick to get his property. And then begins an intriguing game of suspense and mystery. Once again, Deol won hearts with his transformation from a lover boy to a husband seeking revenge. Directed by duo Abbas-Mustan, the film performed very well at box office and was declared as a ‘Hit’. The film was nominated for several Filmfare Awards including the Best Film.

The audience was in for a real treat when the three Deols of the industry, Dharmendra and his sons Sunny and Bobby, shared the screen space for the first time in 2007 release ‘Apne’. A sports drama presented the youngest Deol in the role of a boxer who wants to bring back his father’s lost honour. While the audiences loved to watch him inside the boxing ring, he was also highly appreciated for his chemistry with Katrina Kaif, who played his love interest in the film. Rich in emotions and the ability to strike a chord with families, ‘Apne’ became one of the few Hindi films which was also dubbed in Punjabi.

4.Gupt: The Hidden Truth’
‘Gupt: The Hidden Truth’, commonly known as ‘Gupt’, is one of the most loved suspense thrillers of Bollywood. The story is about Sahil Sinha who gets into trouble after his father Governor Jai Singh Sinha gets killed and he ends up becoming the prime suspect. A slickly made film with stylish cinematography, beautiful locales, and pretty good performances, ‘Gupt’ had all the elements of a perfect entertainer and manages to keep you on the edge of your seat even after years of its release.

Launching the careers of the children of two superstars of yesteryear, Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna, ‘Barsaat’ was one of the highly anticipated films of that year. In his feature film debut directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Deol starred as a naive villager who comes to the city to attend college. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut and the film went on to become a super-hit at the box-office. Its unadjusted gross in 2018 would be a whopping Rs. 190 Crores.
