#BanGrahanWebSeries: ‘Grahan’ Web series finds itself in Big Controversy, A Day Before its Release!

The web series ‘Grahan’ based on author Satya Vyas’s novel ‘Chaurasi’ is set to release on Disney + Hotstar on June 24. However, the series has been mired in controversy even before its release. Netizens on social media are continuously trending #BanGrahanWebSeries and are demanding to ban the series from the makers.

Earlier , Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur on Monday demanded an immediate ban on Grahan, a web series based on the incidents of 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Addressing the press conference on Monday, Kaur said, “A Sikh character has been portrayed in an objectionable manner in a web series called ‘Grahan’ based on the 1984 Sikh genocide. In the web series, the charge of Sikh genocide is being leveled against a Sikh character which is highly condemnable and fabricated.”

Along with this, some people are also campaigning against author Satya Vyas.

Talking about this series, the web series is the story of a young IPS officer Amrita Singh who had been handed a special case from the past, only to discover that her father Gursevak has been accused of a heinous crime. Torn between her duty and love towards her father, Amrita had a hard time trying to unravel the mystery which will cast a shadow on her personal and professional life.

The riots of 1984 that took place after the assassination of PM Indira Gandhi have buried some of the darkest secrets of recent Indian history, and this eight-episode series Grahan will take that pivotal incident as background.

Grahan is directed by Ranjan Chandel with Shailendra Jha as Showrunner. It has been bankrolled by Jar pictures.: Grahan includes stars like Pavan Malhotra, Zoya Hussain, Anshuman Pushkar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Teekam Joshi, and Sahidur Rahman.

Inspired by the popular novel Chaurasi, the story traverses two worlds set apart by three decades but connected by a truth.
