No Fear No Favour

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Vin diesel starring ‘Fast and Furious 8’ teaser trailer arrives.

The Fast & Furious franchise is but one of several big-time Hollywood properties that has a fresh installment hitting theaters in 2017. Fast & Furious is up to eight movies now and those behind the franchise have gotten increasingly creative with how they name each new chapter over time. That trend, in some ways, began with the second film (2 Fast 2 Furious), but it has since given rise to installments titled Fast Five and Furious Seven.

Next year’s Fast & Furious 8 was previously being referred to as simply Fast 8, though it appears that Universal Pictures has had a change of heart and has now re-titled the film as: The Fate of the Furious. For the proof of just that, you should watch the newly-released teaser for the Fate of the Furious trailer that is slated to debut online this Sunday, December 11th.
Also back for Fate of the Furious are Furious Seven additions Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jason Statham, along with the core Fast & Furious movie cast (Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, and so forth.). Fate of the Furious is the first Fast & Furious movie to be made following the “retirement” of the Brian O’Connor character in Furious Seven, due to the real-life death of series costar Paul Walker.

Universal has already staked out release dates for a ninth and tenth Fast & Furious movie, so the studio clearly doesn’t expect the series to slow down too much at the box office, despite Walker’s passing.

Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) is certainly aiming to up the ante for this franchise in terms of scale and spectacle, if the film’s trailer teaser and synopsis are any indication.

It remains to be seen if Fate of the Furious will also offer the same meaningful family drama and character interactions that the best entries in this franchise have provided – but as far as impressive vehicular stunts and set pieces go, there’s little reason to doubt the film will deliver in that area.
