‘Dilwalon ki Dilli’ gets chocked before Diwali, not because of crackers but traffic

Diwali is three days away and the traffic in Delhi is already choking the whole city. Even for commuting on a 14 km journey, its taking more than 4 hrs to the Delhietes! Already feeling suffocated of the jams right?
Seems like sharing posts such as ‘Say no to crackers’ are not going to help at all.

An immense increase in the air pollution rate has also been noticed even three days before Diwali! Wonder if mere vehicles can harm ‘dilwalon ki dilli’ to this extent, what will the crackers do.

Dip in air quality has been primarily caused by an increase in vehicular traffic in the festival season and poor dispersal of pollutants due to cloudy morning conditions.

To counter heavy traffic during the festival rush, more traffic cops have been deployed on roads till late evening.

“To control traffic during evening hours, the traffic police have changed deployment plans for the week, taking out staff from morning peak hour duty and putting them on evening duty. The special arrangement will remain effective between 4 pm and 11 pm,” said Garima Bhatnagar, joint CP (traffic).

But even after such efforts, there were no improvements in the traffic conditions!
In such conditions, several global cities issue emergency directions to shut down certain sources of pollution.

Neither Delhi or the Centre has a policy in place to issue health warnings despite deliberations on the subject for a couple of years now.
