Diljit Dosanjh is facing legal action after a complaint was filed against him following his New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana. The complaint, lodged by Panditrao Dharenavar, an assistant professor from Chandigarh, accuses the singer of continuing to perform songs that allegedly promote alcohol, despite previous warnings. Songs like “Patiala Pegg,” “5 Tara Theke,” and “Case (Jeeb Vicho Feem Labbiya)” were specifically mentioned, even with modified lyrics. The complaint led to a formal notice issued by the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department, urging Ludhiana authorities to prevent Diljit from performing these tracks. Dharenavar also cited a 2019 ruling by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which banned songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence at public events, citing the harmful impact these messages have on young audiences. He expressed intent to escalate the matter to the High Court if Diljit performs these songs. Additionally, Dharenavar criticized Diljit for performing these songs while wearing a traditional pagadi, which he felt should not be linked with negative values. This issue is not new for the singer. Diljit had faced legal scrutiny for similar reasons during previous concerts, including shows in Hyderabad and Indore. Earlier this year, he also stated that he would stop singing about alcohol if the Indian government imposed a nationwide liquor ban. Despite the controversies, Diljit’s “Dil-Luminati India Tour” was a major success, selling out concerts at every stop.
