Stand up Comedian from Gujarat Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested on Saturday for allegedly Hindu religious beliefs and Home Minister Amit Shah during a New Year Show in Indore.
The case was filed based on a complaint by Eklavya Gaur, son of former Indore Mayor BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur.
Munawar and four others -Edwin Anthony, Prakhar Vyas, Priyam Vyad, and Nalin Yadav were produced in Court on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody till January 13.
According to the police, the comedy show was held at a cafe in the 56 Dukan area of Indore on Friday. Eklavya Singh Gaur, who had gone to watch the show filed a complaint about the shoe when they heard the ‘indecent’ comments.
“A case was filed late on Friday night against Munawar Faruqui, a resident of Junagadh in Gujarat and four Indore-based persons based on a written complaint filed by Eklavya Singh Gaur,” in-charge of Tukoganj police station Kamlesh Sharma was quoted as saying by PTI. Gaur also submitted video footage of the show.
All of them were booked under IPC sections 295-A (outraging religious feelings), 269 (unlawful or negligent act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), and other relevant provisions.
Faruqui, who hails from Junagarh in Gujarat, was also allegedly assaulted by Hindutva goons.
Meanwhile, Twitterati is expressing their outrage over Faruqui’s arrest and are calling out a section of People hypocrites for supporting Charlie Hebdo earlier.
For the unversed Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly magazine that had earlier been on the radar for exercising their creative freedom and published controversial cartoons of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.
