‘Wicketkeeping should remain a specialist position’ Saha opens up on battle with Pant for keepers slot

Wriddhiman Saha has been India’s most reliable test Wicketkeeper and has constantly performed remarkably to withhold his position in India’s XI for the past decade.

For years now he has been the No.1 Wicketkeeper for India in the longest format but somewhere his batting has not complemented his abilities as a keeper.

In the recently concluded historic Test series in Australia, Saha was dropped after the day-night match in Adelaide and Rishabh Pant was appointed at his place from the second test.

Saha was dropped because of the poor batting performance scoring just 9 and 4 in the first innings, and was dropped for the remaining test.

Asked if it was a setback for watching Pant taking his position over him, Saha said that he has been hearing these comparisons since 2018. The keeper said “, I have been hearing these comparisons since 2018. I believe in doing my job and I am not worried about how Pant is batting. I don’t want to change my game because of that. It’s up to the management to decide who will stand behind the stumps” Saha told during a chat.

Though Saha admitted that Pant is a better batsman than him, and his glovework is better than southpaw and adding that said it’s up to the team management whom to pick between the two.

Saha also added that there are situations when a missed chance can change the result of a match and Wicketkeeping is a specialist job especially in Test Cricket and it should remain like it.

Much like Team India, Saha too believes in not giving up hope as he lastly said that he will make most of the opportunity when he faces England in Chennai.
