An unexpected Debutant for Rajasthan Royals, Chetan Sakariya couldn’t have started IPL 2021 on a better note ending up as the pick of the bowlers on his first match.

Playing his IPL debut match Chetan Sakariya impressed throughout the innings and ended his quota of overs with an economy of 7.75.

Tasked with bowling difficult overs, Chetan Sakariya showed tremendous grit to consistently outfox the batsman. Although Chetan Sakariya didn’t have the best of starts as he conceded 10 runs in his first over, the young man came brilliantly picking up Mayank Agarwal’s wicket in the next over.

The 22-year-old Chetan also took a blinder catch on the bowling off Chris Morris in the 18 over against PBKS that even left Morris completely astonished.

Chetan Sakariya used the variations brilliantly and bowled an outstanding 20th over by just conceding five runs and dismissing KL Rahul and Jhye Richardson.

He ended with figures of 3/31 on debut and announced his entry into the massive premier League.

The Saurashtra left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya has been through cut and thrust to make his way into the Indian Premier League.

Sakariya made his debut for Saurashtra in 2018-2019 and was picked up on Rs 1.2 crore in the IPL 2021 auction by the Rajasthan Royals. Chetan Sakariya’s dream debut has a lot of hard work and struggles behind it. The 22-year-old had to deal with a tragic incident in January when he was playing cricket.

Chetan Sakariya was in Indore playing Syed Mushtaq Trophy when his young brother Rahul died by suicide on January 14 this year. The devastated family did not let the senior brother Chetan know about the incident to allow him to play cricket smoothly.

Sakariya comes from a small town Vartej which is located on the outskirts of Rajkot City in Gujarat. Wanting to become a batsman, Chetan turned towards fast bowling when he was in Class 11 because that helped student’s get a loss of attention in school.

Sakariya has risen through the ranks playing tennis cricket and much of his skill set is self-taught. Sakariya has been the lone breadwinner for his family for the last few years after his father has been largely been forced to shut down his tempo business due to ill- health.

Chetan couldn’t even afford his son’s cricket expenses and it wasn’t until Sakariya’s maternal uncle stepped in that he was able to focus fully on the game.

A lack of knowledge about t workloads also led him overworking himself in trying the bowl fast. He worked with his maternal uncle who took care of his fees and cricket expenses, in exchange for some time to help him with his wholesale stationary dealership in Bhavnagar.

About his entry into the IPL Sakariya trailed with Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals. He was eventually picked up by the Royals at the February auction.

For the unversed Chetan was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore contingent in IPL 2020 as a net bowler.
