While the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t concluded yet, The Board of Control for Cricket in India has started its preparation for the 2022 season. The biggest T20 league will now undergo a major transition in the next season which also includes tournament expansion.
The BCCI has a blueprint ready for the IPL wherein two teams will be brought in for the IPL. The blueprint also includes details about player retention, the mega auction, increment in salary purse, and media rights tender too.
As per the Times of India , the BCCI has finally made up its mind to introduce two new franchises for the upcoming season of IPL 2022. For the new teams, a tender will be brought out at mid -August and after the further due diligence, the bidding will be opened in mid-October.
The BCCI will also magnify the salary purse of all the franchises from INR 85 to 90 crores meaning there would be an increase of INR 50 crores to the total pool amongst ten franchises. The team must spend a minimum of 75% of the allotted purse.
As far as the player retention policy goes, every franchise can now be able to retain only four players. The conditions for retaining will be there should be either three Indians and one overseas player or two Indians and two foreign cricketers. Notably, BCCI is also planning to conduct a mega auction in December 2021.
As soon as the IPL fans got the news of the new retention policy, they started bombarding social media with predicting their possible retention combinations for their respective favourite team.

Meanwhile, IPL 2021 which was scheduled to take place in April – May was forced to suspend midway on May 4. The remaining matches will now take place in the United Arab Emirates in September and October.
