India’s fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar who hasn’t featured in a Test Match Since January 2018, is not ready to prioritise one format over another just yet. Even after not playing Test Cricket and First Class Game for more than three years now, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is determined to play red-ball cricket if he is given a proper chance in the future.
Although his exclusion from the red ball series against England might have raise eyebrows over his future in the longer format. But on Friday, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Vice-Captain of India’s limited over team in Sri Lanka put those doubts to rest as he still believes he can contribute in any format.
“To be honest, there is no priority for me whether it’s a red ball or white ball, if I am selected in red ball and I am part of any team, I will definitely try to contribute. Bhuvneshwar said ahead of India’s white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
However with the IPL and The T20 World Cup lined up later this year, there are very few Tests India have to play this year but these thoughts are not bothering Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he says ‘I’m not looking ahead to what will happen in 18-20 months , I Will Prepare for all Three Formats’
After playing his last Test Match against South Africa in January, 2018, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s career has been marred by a string of injuries. During the 2019 World Cup he pulled his hamstring, and towards the end of the year he again injured his groin. In 2020 also while playing for his IPL Team SRH, the fast bowler sustained a thigh injury.
However, After a lengthy break, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was selected during the England ODI and T20 Series in 2021, where he proved his mettle yet again by scalping 10 Wickets from the eight games in the series.
Meanwhile, India’s series against Sri Lanka will be a golden opportunity for Bhuvneshwar Kumar to seal his place in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The ODI series will start from this Sunday i.e 18th July 2021.
