1993 Mumbai blats: Abu Salem, gets life sentence; death penalty for two others

In a major development in the ongoing 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast Case, a special Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) Court has today pronounced the quantum of sentence against all the major convicts. The court verdict on the judgement day today ruled, that dreaded gangster Abu Salem and Karimullah Khan gets life imprisonment while the other main convict, Riaz Siddiqui, gets 10 years in jail. However, the court pronounced death penalty for Tahir Merchant and Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan, who will be hanged until death unless their punishment gets over-ruled on appeal.

The TADA court, on June 16 this year, convicted six accused, including masterminds Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa, in the 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case. While the court, today, pronounced the quantum of sentence for five convicts, Mustafa Dossa, who died of a heart attack earlier this year, was not present to attend the court verdict. The court had convicted the accused on charges including murder, criminal conspiracy and other sections of Indian Penal Code, TADA Act, Explosive Substances Act, Explosives Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

This was the second leg of the crucial trial on the serial blasts at the financial capital of India, where seven were accused and underwent the trial by a special TADA court in Mumbai. In its first trial, the court convicted 100 people among whom 23 were later acquitted. In connection with the same case, Yakub Menon was earlier hanged in 2015.

With the hearing of the case beginning in 2007, the court recorded more than 750 prosecution witnesses and 50 witnesses in connection with the serial blasts. However, the hearing got delayed till 2012 with three pending petitions from Mustafa Dossa, Abu Salem and CBI

NIA conducts raids in Delhi, Srinagar in connection with terror funding probe

In a major crackdown on terror funding, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted raids at 11 locations in Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir and five places in Delhi. Reportedly, NIA officials have confirmed that raids are underway at premises of traders who are allegedly linked with hawala operations and are using money to fund terror and separatist activities. Senior police officials have further claimed that NIA had also conducted raids at parts of South Kashmir on Tuesday.

The NIA move comes a day after it arrested two people, including a freelance journalist, for their alleged role in stone pelting at the valley and for support against security forces through social networking sites. The accused, identified as Javed Ahmad Bhat and Kamran Yusuf of Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested in connection with an ongoing probe into terror funding. The NIA had earlier made multiple arrests as a part of its investigation in the case registered on May30, where Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief and alleged Mumbai terror attack mastermind, Hafiz Saeed, is also an accused.

Till date, the NIA had arrested seven leaders for allegedly raising, collecting and receiving money through illegal means like hawala channels, to support terror activities in the Kashmir valley. The case also probes on individuals causing unrest in Kashmir by stone pelting, burning schools and damaging public properties.

Earlier, on August 17 the NIA arrested a prominent Kashmiri businessman named Zahoor Ahmed Watali and on July 24 the agency booked seven separatist leaders with links to terror funding from Pakistan and terror outfits based there.

In another major development in the day, prominent separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik have stated that they would be presenting themselves before the NIA in New Delhi on September 9. As reported by the Hindustan Times, JKLF chief Yasin Malik, after a meeting at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar said, “This (presenting before the NIA) is the only way to end the terror that NIA has unleashed in nook-and-corner of Kashmir. Keep doors of Tihar jail open, we are coming. NIA has terrorized the whole Kashmiri nation.”

These ISIS Terrorist Flees In Women Attire To Save Their Life

With every passing day, the once dreaded Islamic State is being obliterated from Mosul, the city from which Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi declared his Caliphate in 2014.

As the coalition forces led by Iraqi Army and backed by the US gains ground the Islamic State have suffered heavy losses.

With them facing an almost certain defeat, many of the remaining ISIS fighters are trying to flee the city to places like Raqqa, the Syrian stronghold of the terror group.

Many are dressing up as women to escape scrutiny and arrest by Iraqi forces. This came to light after the resurgent Iraqi army arrested many burqa-clad men trying to flee the city.

The Iraqi army has now shared an image of what they claim as ISIS fighters arrested while trying to flee, disguised as women.

One of the images shows an ISIS fighter with a heavy makeup, plucked eyebrows, mascara, foundation and red lipstick. But there was some problem… he forgot to shave his thick facial hair.
Another set of the image showed men wearing the veiled full-length dress, with some even having padded bras to make them look like women!

Islamic State fighters dressing up as women to flee conflict zones is nothing new, they have used the same trick in the past too.
