The Indian management decided to bench star players like MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the second and last T20I against Ireland after seeing the kind of fight Ireland put up in the first game. Kaul, whose claim to fame came through his IPL performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last two seasons, was also handed debutant in the game.
The second string side, however, went on the aggressive right from the get-go. After Virat Kohli was dismissed for just 9 runs, KL Rahul got together with Suresh Raina to build a staggering 106-run partnership to give India the start they needed. And after that storm had passed, in came Hardik Pandya who ended things with his thunderous style by hitting 32 runs off just 9 balls.
The stage was perfectly set for newbie Kaul to make an impression as Ireland had a mammoth task chasing 214 runs. It took him just two overs to get his first international wicket in Indian colours as he got Irish hard-hitter Shannon on just his fourth ball. However, his joy was shortlived as the field umpire decided to go upstairs to check if he had overstepped. As the third umpire saw the replays to make a final decision, he realized that he had just two angles – one of which was being obstructed by the non-striker. Kaul had a heart in mouth moment as his foot appeared to be over the popping crease.
Looking the repeated replays, the commentators were convinced that Kaul would be denied his maiden wicket because of a no-ball – bringing back memories of India’s professional no-ball expect Jasprit Bumrah. But, to Kaul and everyone’s surprise, the decision given was out with everyone stunned. However, when it is all said and done, Kaul can enjoy his moment in the sun
The skipper is at cloud nine after his team won the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs keeping their hopes alive to qualify for the playoffs.
SRH were going great guns in their chase of 219 despite Shikhar Dhawan’s departure. Englishman Alex Hales was looking dangerous, having already hit three sixes and two boundaries, but in the 8th over, AB de Villiers took arguably one of the best catches to be ever taken on a cricket field, bringing to an end Hales’ stay.
Kohli took to Twitter and compared De Villiers to a Marvel superhero, saying he saw “SpiderMan live today”.
AB de Villiers, who was named man of the match spoke after the match and was his modest self when describing the moment.
“I made it look better than it was,” the 34-year-old said after being adjudged man-of-the-match.
“I got in a bad position. The ball had a little bit curve on it. The minute I took the jump, I realised it was a little bit outside of my body… Luckily it stuck.”
The win was crucial for RCB to qualifying for the playoffs.Victory in Bengaluru, took Virat Kohli’s team to 12 points with one match remaining. RCB are fifth in the IPL Points Table, equal on points with fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, sixth-placed Rajasthan Royals and seventh-placed Kings XI Punjab.
If RCB win their final match against Rajasthan Royals, they will need Kolkata Knight Riders to lose to make to the top four. Best scenario for Kohli’s team will be if Mumbai Indians also lose, but in the event they win, then RCB will need a big win over Rajasthan to better MI’s net run-rate.
If Kings XI Punjab manages to beat Chennai Super Kings in their final match, they will need to do so by a massive margin to try and overhaul RCB’s net run-rate.
CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni sent the crowd cheering by having a bit of fun with Ravindra Jadeja during the game.
CSK comeback in Indian Premier League after 2 years has been on a roll. They have surprised one and all have churned out consistent performances throughout the tournament. On Sunday, in a match against table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai produced another magical effort which secured their playoff berth. Chasing a stiff target of 180, Chennai got home in 19 overs, riding on Ambati Rayudu’s maiden IPL ton.
The biggest reason for Chennai’s success this season could be attributed to skipper MS Dhoni’s consistency. The captain cool seems to be enjoying his time in the middle. During the first innings of the match, the lighter-side of Dhoni was on full display. In a Harbhajan Singh over, Shikhar Dhawan just guided the ball on the leg-side for a single. Dhoni run quickly to field the ball, while Ravindra Jadeja came in running from deep mid-wicket. Seeing Jadeja coming towards him, Dhoni pretended to throw the ball towards him, which caught Jadeja by surprise. The incident left everyone in splits.
After the match, CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo said, “Our bowlers bowled very well today. Both Shikhar and Williamson played well but we pulled it back in the end. At a crucial time we got their wickets. Most of the times I come around 12-13 overs so I go for runs. I am a wicket-taking bowler that’s why my economy is very high. It’s a challenge to bowl and I enjoy it.”
Led by Rashid Khan’s magnificent leg-spin, the Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a spectacular bowling performance and recorded a 31-run victory at the Wankhede against the Mumbai Indians, who collapsed for a total of just 87. In the 14th over, Rashid Khan bowled a brilliant googly to Hardik Pandya, who barely managed to survive, and as a result, both players were left smiling at each other. Watch the incident here!
On a day for bowlers, the Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out SRH for 118 in 18.4 overs but the hosts were then bundled out for 87 in 18.5 overs in an absorbing clash. This was the second-lowest total defended in IPL history. Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan bagged two wickets, while Basil Thampi and medium-pacer Sidharth Kaul grabbed three to hand the Orange Army a stunning win.
In the low-scoring encounter, Rashid, who was adjudged Man of the Match, left the players and fans in a tizzy after a googly bowled by him completely bamboozled Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Pandya looked stunned after the ball narrowly missed the bails. The two players exchanged smiles after the incident.
SunRisers ended their two-match losing run and are third in the points table with eight points from six matches.
Rashid had earned himself a mega contract with the SunRisers at IPL 2018 Player Auction. The Hyderabad outfit used their Right to Match (RTM) card to retain the spinner for a eye-popping Rs. 9 cr.
Rashid made a huge mark for cricket in Afghanistan when he was purchased Hyderabad for Rs 4 crore in the 2017 auction. Rashid picked up 17 wickets in 14 matches with a strike rate of 19.05 during the last IPL season.
