Fresh from her Indonesian Masters title triumph, Saina has posted her pictures from the ramp on her Instragam account and twitter handles. The first Indian shuttler to win an Olympic medal, said that it was a lovely experience to walk on the ramp for designer Vanni Raghupanti.
Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu’s made an impactful entry in the
glam world as they dazzled the ramp at the Lakme India Fashion week for their
respective designers. The queens of the badminton court took the fashion world
shocked with their glamorous avatars.
Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Sports Ministry on Monday. Sindhu has risen to the number two spot in the women’s singles ranking after her stupendous run in the World Championship in Glasgow in August.
The star player, who won the silver medal in Rio Olympic and became the first Indian shuttler to lift Korea Open Super Series title, is now the second athlete after former Indian skipper MS Dhoni to be nominated for the award. She joins the elite club comprising of Saina Nehwal & Pullela Gopichand.
For Sindhu, the honour adds to the illustrious awards she has already picked up this season. The 22-year old shuttler has been in spectacular touch, since she is winning Indian Open Super Series and the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold title, taking our country to touch the sky of success.
aina Nehwal has reunited with her former coach Pullela Gopichand and has decided to shift base to Hyderabad for training immediately.
Nehwal took to Twitter to make the big announcement in a series of Tweets, saying: ‘For a while, I’ve been thinking about moving my training base back to the Gopichand Academy and I had a discussion about this with Gopi sir and I am really thankful to him for agreeing to help me again. At this stage in my career, I think he can help me achieve my goals. I’m also very thankful to Vimal sir for helping me for the last three years. He helped reach world no.1 in the rankings. And also helped me win two world championships medal silver in 2015 and bronze in 2017 along with many super series titles.I m very happy to b back home and train in Hyderabad 👍👍keep supporting friends 🙏🙏
Hi friends I wanted to share some news with everyone . 🙏🙏
Saina had left Gopichand’s academy and started training under Vimal Kumar in Bangalore from September 2014. Under Vimal, Saina reached the world No.1 spot, won two World Championship medals and also reached the All England final.
Saina had maintained distance from Gopichand but it was under him that Saina had became the first Indian shuttler to win a medal (bronze) at the Olympics. The duo were responsible for taking the game to the masses in the country.
It will be interesting to see how Gopichand fits Saina, considering he already has the likes of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap under his wings.
Our sportspersons have made India proud time and again, and Saina Nehwal is one of the stars in the galaxy. The former world champion and the Olympic bronze winner is one of the finest badminton players in the country. Bollywood has already made some brilliant films on the lives of sportsmen and women. Biopics like ‘Milkha Singh’, ‘Mary Kom’, the more recent ‘MS Dhoni’ and ‘Dangal’ have made the audience fall in love with the characters.
And now a movie on the life of badminton star Saina is being directed by the very talented filmmaker-scriptwriter Amol Gupte of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame and we are pretty sure the movie will be an exceptional piece of art. Actress Shraddha Kapoor has been roped in to play Saina in the movie, though we kinda hoped Deepika Padukone would have played the badminton star, considering she herself has been a badminton player.
“Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who’s not just been the world’s No. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon. I can’t wait to start prepping for my role,” Shraddha told ‘The Times of India’
Saina was ecstatic about the news. “Whoa! That’s news to me. I was aware of the film, yes, but I didn’t know about the casting. It’s great if Shraddha plays me because she is a very talented actress and very hardworking. I am sure she will do justice to the role. The best part is, she is a good friend as well. So it will be easier to teach her some badminton skills (laughs!). A lot of people did tell me that we do look similar and I think that’s a huge compliment because Shraddha is very good looking.”
As much as we love Shraddha Kapoor, we would have loved to see Deepika Padukone play the role. Daughter of badminton star Prakash Padukone and herself a badminton player, Deepika would have been perfect for the role, we think. The leggy lass knows the sport all too well already!
