Despite International Retirement, AB de Assures His Fans About His Playing In IPL

AB de Villiers’ retirement announcement had not clarified if he’d play professional leagues or not.

AB de Villiers has comforted his fans by confirming he will continue to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the time of calling it a day, de Villiers had said, “I have no plans to play overseas, in fact, I hope I can continue to be available for the Titans in domestic cricket.”

I will keep on playing IPL for a few years, and I would like to play for the Titans, and help some of the youngsters. But there are no set plans. I haven’t been able to say that for a long time,” he said.

“There are some offers on the table from around the world, but it will be nice to wake up and wonder what to do; to be normal. Bangalore is a special place, a second home, really. I played my 100th Test there, and obviously, RCB is a massive part of my life. India as a country has taken me in, and it’s hard to explain what that feels like. I just play cricket.”

De Villiers began his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural season in 2008 and after three seasons, he went to RCB and never left.

IPL 2018: Virat Kohli Breaks Silence On Fitness Concerns, Inks an Open Letter in Response

Cricketing star Virat Kohli never fails to impress the audience over with his top-class performance on-field. He actively keeps a tab on his fitness regimes, as is evident from his social media feed. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain associates himself with brands that are health-conscious. Therefore, it came across as a surprise for many of his fans when reports regarding Virat’s health emerged online.

RCB’s loss in recent games has understandably resulted in some anger and frustration from the fans. However, some have gone a step ahead and questioned the fitness of Kohli.
In response, Virat Kohli inked an open letter.

“Dear Fans,

So, I believe recent pictures of me have been making the rounds for all the wrong reasons. I have received some very confused messages from my fellow fitness enthusiasts and fans.

Tune in to the 1st strategic timeout of the 8 pm IPL match tonight, and I assure you, you will have answers to your questions.

Before I reveal my reasons, I would like to mention that I have always been, and will continue to be very vocal and passionate about the importance of eating healthy. Every individual has his own fitness level and I strongly believe we must do what works best for our bodies. Personally, I love to eat home-cooked meals whenever possible but my guilty pleasure is chips! Which is why you have seen me bingeing on them of late.

I understand, and truly appreciate your concern for my health, but I assure you that my fitness regimen has not gone for a toss (pun intended).

What’s changed? I’ve found my guilt-free timeout.

Yours sincerely,

Virat Kohli”

Well, Virat Kohli is the brand ambassador for Too Yumm chips, the packaged snacking brand of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. Too Yumm is promoted as a healthy snack. Virat’s post certainly talks about chips and how he has found a healthy way to eat them so it seems it is just a brand promotion tweet from the skipper.

Looking forward to hear from Virat Kohli when he will tune in.

‘I Saw SpiderMan Live today’: Virat Kohli

The skipper is at cloud nine after his team won the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs keeping their hopes alive to qualify for the playoffs.

SRH were going great guns in their chase of 219 despite Shikhar Dhawan’s departure. Englishman Alex Hales was looking dangerous, having already hit three sixes and two boundaries, but in the 8th over, AB de Villiers took arguably one of the best catches to be ever taken on a cricket field, bringing to an end Hales’ stay.

Kohli took to Twitter and compared De Villiers to a Marvel superhero, saying he saw “SpiderMan live today”.

AB de Villiers, who was named man of the match spoke after the match and was his modest self when describing the moment.

“I made it look better than it was,” the 34-year-old said after being adjudged man-of-the-match.

“I got in a bad position. The ball had a little bit curve on it. The minute I took the jump, I realised it was a little bit outside of my body… Luckily it stuck.”

The win was crucial for RCB to qualifying for the playoffs.Victory in Bengaluru, took Virat Kohli’s team to 12 points with one match remaining. RCB are fifth in the IPL Points Table, equal on points with fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, sixth-placed Rajasthan Royals and seventh-placed Kings XI Punjab.

If RCB win their final match against Rajasthan Royals, they will need Kolkata Knight Riders to lose to make to the top four. Best scenario for Kohli’s team will be if Mumbai Indians also lose, but in the event they win, then RCB will need a big win over Rajasthan to better MI’s net run-rate.

If Kings XI Punjab manages to beat Chennai Super Kings in their final match, they will need to do so by a massive margin to try and overhaul RCB’s net run-rate.

IPL 2018: Virat Kohli Responds To Anushka Sharma’s Cute Message!

Bollywood’s diva Anushka Sharma always manage to have something special for his husband Virat Kohli and this time she just posted a cute message after RCB’s win over KXIP.

Not only Anushka but Virat too knows how to give surprises to her wife and he came up with a perfect response to Anushka’s message.

Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lived to fight another day as their win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) ensured that the team remained in contention for a playoff spot. Recently, Anushka Sharma posted a picture wearing a T-shirt of Virat Kohli’s name, post RCB’S victory over KXIP, Kohli had the perfect reply for the Bollywood actress.

Anushka Sharma has been a regular at most of RCB’s matches in IPL 2018 but could not be present as RCB faced Punjab in a do-or-die match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Monday night.

According to reports, Anushka Sharma is currently in the United States shooting for her film ‘Zero’, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif.

But the actress left no stones unturned to boost the morale of the team, posting regular messages on Instagram stories as Virat Kohli and team ran riot in Indore.

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab off to a good start but following Rahul’s departure chaos ensued as the hosts lost their next nine wickets for 52 runs. KXIP were bowled out for a paltry 88 with Umesh Yadav picking up three wickets.

Kohli (48) and Parthiv Patel (40) ensured the victory and reached the target in 8.1 overs.

This win helped RCB to improve their net run-rate, KXIP are at fifth spot with 12 points after crashing to their third successive defeat.

IPL 2018: ‘I was told I would be retained by RCB But Never Called Back,’ Says Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle who is also known as King of IPL said RCB officials were in touch with him before the IPL but they never retained him after that.

IPL auctioneer Richard Medley called his name on two occasions at the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) Player Auction but none of them turned up for the Jamaican player. Eventually, it was Kings XI Punjab who snapped up the big-hitting Jamaican at the last moment for his base price of Rs. 2 crore.

“I’ll be honest in admitting that it was very surprising for me to not get picked by any team. I don’t know what went behind closed doors but I also understand that these things happen. It’s just the way it is. But it’s fine. I’ve moved on from it. Like I said, it’s a great opportunity to be playing for King XI Punjab (KXIP) and so far I’ve had a great time. Perhaps it was supposed to happen, you know. King Gayle; destined to be playing for Kings XI Punjab,” Gayle told in an interview.

“I don’t know if I’ve actually proved them wrong. There are always going to be doubters but at the same time I didn’t have anything to prove. My records speak for themselves. Even though I was selected in the very last round of the auction, I wasn’t really worried about it. Even if it was the end of it, there is life… a life beyond cricket, beyond the IPL. At some stage, you are going to walk away from the IPL and other forms of cricket. So I was never too intrigued. This is how I’ve always been, living in the present. But given the sense that I was picked up and playing for a new franchise, it was very pleasing. And the way I have played in the first three games, I think it has been fantastic. I’m very happy with where I’m at,” Gayle said.

In his seven-year-long career at RCB, Gayle smashed 3,163 runs at an average of 43.33 and a strike-rate of 152.7. The year 2017 was quite disappointing for him as he didn’t have had a good run with the bat in 2017 with an average of just 22.22 in the tournament.

Due to his poor performance, RCB decided not to retain this star batsman in 2018.

Gayle said that RCB officials had been in touch with him before the auction and said they wanted him in the team, but he never heard back from anyone.

“Not ‘one of’. I was their biggest draw. It was disappointing from that end, because they had called me. They wanted me in the team and I was told that I will be retained. But they never called back after that. So that gave me the impression that they didn’t want me and it’s fine. As I said, I can’t fight with anyone. I think I had a wonderful CPL and BPL – where I scored two centuries for my side Rangpur Riders. The stats don’t lie: 21 centuries, most number of sixes. If that doesn’t put a stamp on brand Chris Gayle, I don’t know what will,” Gayle said.

KXIP’s decision to pick Gayle for IPL 2018 seems to be their rich decision as the giant player is consistently scoring well throughout this IPL.

Gayle has proved his detractors wrong and shown them why he is referred to as the ‘IPL Boss’.

The West Indies star player has smashed 252 runs in four matches at an average of 126 so far. Gayle is all set to make himself in the Orange Cap List race as his powerful hittings and furious knocks prove he will settle himself somewhere in the top 3 rank for the same.

IPL 2018: RCB Captain Virat Kohli Fined for Slow Over-rate Against CSK

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League match against Chennai Super Kings.

The hosts had put on board a challenging 205 for eight but riding on MS Dhoni’s power-packed 34-ball 70, Super Kings overhauled the formidable target with two balls to spare.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” an IPL press release said.
With this win, CSK have taken the top spot in the IPL points tally on account of a better net run-rate.

Earlier in the match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (70 not out off 34 deliveries) and Ambati Rayudu’s 53-ball 83 helped Chennai Super Kings register a thumping five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chasing a massive total of 206 runs, Dhoni was at his explosive best, blasting seven sixes as the visitors won with five wickets and two deliveries to spare clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

IPL 2018: Record-breaking Virat Kohli Becomes Highest Run-scorer Of The League

Virat Kohli went past Suresh Raina to become the highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League.

While Virat Kohli and his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are not having the best of the Indian Premier League IPL (2018), the India captain at least has crossed one landmark when he went past Suresh Raina as the top run-scorer of the league. Raina has scored 4558 runs off 163 innings he has played in the IPL so far. Kohli needed 31 runs to catch up with Raina during the match with Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday and duly crossed the figure, even though his side was always behind the big target.

While the Royal Challengers Bangalore have had no results to write home about, Kohli has been the silver lining for the otherwise floundering side. The captain who scored an unbeaten 92 right at the top of the order was the only major contributor as they tried to chase down the target of 214.

RCB may have lost once again after conceding more than 200 runs for the second consecutive game, but Kohli’s knock means he is now the highest scorer in the ongoing season. Kohli has amassed a total of 201 runs in four innings at an average of 67 and a strike rate of 143.
Against Mumbai, Kohli scored more than 55 percent of the runs for his team and face more than half the balls bowled by the opposition too on his way to recording the second highest individual score (92*) of the season so far. Co-incidentally, the highest individual score so far this season was also scored in Tuesday’s match by Rohit Sharma (94). Indian Virat Kohli did not begin the current season of the IPL in the way he would have liked, but over the last couple of games, first against Rajasthan Royals and then against the Mumbai Indians he has come into his own.

IPL season 2018: Brendon McCullum has a message for his new RCB Captain

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) assembled a terrifying batting unit as they roped in former New Zealand hard-hitter Brendon McCullum in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, having already retained Virat Kohli and AB de Villers for the new season. The former Kiwi skipper, who played for Gujarat Lions in last two seasons, couldn’t hold his excitement and took to Twitter to express how pleased he was with the prospect of playing with Kohli and De Villiers. Baz soon got an equally exciting reply from AB de Villiers.

Having finished IPL 10 at the bottom of the points table, the Bengaluru franchise were determined to put in a balanced squad this term, in an attempt to challenge for the title for this edition. With the likes of Kohli (17 cr), De Villiers (11 cr), McCullum (3.6 cr), Chahal (6 cr) in the squad and underperformers like Chris Gayle and Shane Watson out, there isn’t a reason why they won’t be able to do the same in IPL 11.

“Very very happy to be joining up with @RCBTweets. In @imVkohli and @ABde Villiers17, they are two blokes I have dreamed of playing with!”, tweeted McCullum, who saw his last season end prematurely for the Lions after sustaining a hamstring injury.

De Villiers, who got free from the 3rd and final Test against India on the eve of the second day of IPL auction, was equally delighted on seeing McCullum being roped in by the Bengaluru franchise and replied to the wicket-keeper batsman saying, “Oh man, gonna be loads of fun! Can’t wait, Baz”

The recently concluded IPL bidding war in Bengaluru saw England all-rounder Chris Woakes become RCB’s costliest buy at INR 7.4 crore. He was highly impressive in his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season and is recognised as one of the most sought-after players in the category.

RCB utilized their RTM options to buy-back highly-rated spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and all-rounder Pawan Negi and also managed to bring on board overseas stars like Quinton de Kock, Moeen Ali and Colin de Grandhomme. Here’s their full squad:

Virat Kohli (retained 17 Cr), AB de Villiers (retained 11 Cr), Sarfraz Khan (retained 3 Cr), Brendon McCullum (3.6 Cr), Chris Woakes (7.4 Cr), Colin de Grandhomme (2.2 Cr), Moeen Ali (1.7 Cr), Quinton de Kock (2.8 Cr), Umesh Yadav (4.2 Cr), Yuzvendra Chahal (6 Cr), Manan Vohra (1.1 Cr), Kulwant Kejroliya (85 Lakh), Aniket Choudhary (30 Lakh), Navdeep Saini (3 c), Murugan Ashwin (2.2 Cr), Mandeep Singh (1.4 Cr), Washington Sundar (3.2 Cr), Pawan Negi (1 Cr RTM), Mohammad Siraj (2.6 Cr), Nathan Coulter-Nile (2.2 Cr), Anirudha Joshi (20L), Parthiv Patel (1.7 Cr), Tim Southee (1 Cr), Pavan Deshpande (20 L).

Dhoni to return to his groove Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018

MS Dhoni, the former India skipper, is all set to return to the Chennai Super Kings franchise for the 2018 Indian Premier League after the IPL Governing Council cleared the path for his return.

The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) governing council has cleared up to three players from the two franchise suspended for two seasons, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, to be retained for next year’s edition of the lucrative T20 tournament, which means that Indian cricket superstar MS Dhoni could be in line to represent the franchise whom he led to two IPL title.

In a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA), the IPL GC met to discuss IPL Player retention policy, salary cap, player regulations and other related issues. Among the decisions taken was to allow Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings to retain players from their 2015 squads, who are not playing for any other franchise, and to set in place the five-player buy-back rule which includes option of doing so with three retentions and two matching cards, or two retentions and three matching cards.

Out of five cricketers that a franchise could buy back, a maximum of three Indians and two overseas players are allowed. If a franchise opts not to retain any players, it will get three matching cards at the auction in 2018.

A maximum of 25 players (with a total of eight overseas players) and a minimum of 18 players will be allowed per franchise squad. Salary caps have been set at Rs 80 crore for 2017, 82 crores for 2019 and 85 crore for 2020. The minimum spend will be 75 percent of the salary cap for each season. The maximum cap for uncapped cricketers will be Rs 40 lakh.

Following the IPL spot-fixing controversy that broke in 2013, CSK and RR were suspended for two years (2016 and 2017) after the Lodha Committee’s verdict. Dhoni played for one of the two replacement franchise, Rising Pune Supergiants, captaining them during the 2016 IPL season. Gujarat Lions were the other franchise, replacing Rajasthan.

According to sources, CSK will also retain Dwayne Bravo. IPL title holders Mumbai Indians will use all their retentions on Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, and the Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal). The sources added that Royal Challengers Bangalore will retain Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle but there is no confirmation Shane Watson. Delhi Daredevils are not likely to retain any player and Sunrisers Hyderabad will retain David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
