Do you know that Sakshi Dhoni and Anushka Sharma were school buddies

Do you know that Sakshi Dhoni and Anushka Sharma were school buddies

Life comes with its own surprises and coincidences. There is a bizarre co-relation between a school in Assam and the girls in the two Indian cricket captains lives’. Yes, you read it right.

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are married and both had a love marriage with their respective wives. While MS Dhoni fell for Sakshi was not a known face to the fans of the cricketer, Virat fell for one of the most popular Bollywood actresses of the current time. Anushka Sharma had done an ad of anti-dandruff shampoo as the first project with Virat. Things went well and both were happily married, just like MS Dhoni and Sakshi. While Anushka was often trolled for ruining the concentration of his husband from the game, Sakshi never felt the need to be known by the public and made very less public appearances. In spite of these differences what we all are unaware of is the fact that the wives of these two legendary cricketers have been classmates.

As bizarre as it sounds, wife of the former Indian captain MS Dhoni and girlfriend of the current Indian captain Virat Kohli studied together in one class in a school in Assam and most probably they were classmates in standard I A.

The throwback photos of Anushka and Sakshi by one of the actress’ fan page are doing the rounds on social media. In fact, both the ladies even studied together once in the same school in Assam. During childhood, Anushka studied in various schools since she used to travel across with her father, who worked in the Army.

In an earlier interview, Anushka Sharma had talked about reuniting with Sakshi Dhoni years after graduating.

“Sakshi and I lived together in a very small town in Assam. When she told me where she lived, I said wow, I have lived here too! She said I went to this school, I said I went to this school too,” Anushka remembered her conversation with Sakshi when they met years later unknown to the realisation they ever had met before. “And then I found a picture in which Sakshi is dressed as a fairy and I’m dressed in a Ghaghara like my favourite idol Madhuri. Sakshi is extremely funny,” she continued.

Virat Kohli Speaks Up On MS Dhoni’s Exclusion From T20I Squad

Along with Virat Kohli, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also spoke up on MS Dhoni’s exclusion from the T20I squad.

When BCCI announced the exclusion of MS Dhoni from the T20I squad for the series against Windies and Australia, the news came as a surprise to many. Rishabh Pant was chosen over the 37-year-old veteran in the shortest format of the game. Elaborating on Pant’s inclusion, skipper Virat Kohli in the post-match press conference on Thursday explained that the decision was all about helping the 21-year-old grow in the shortest format of the game.

“I think the selectors have already addressed this if I’m not wrong. And he’s been spoken to, firstly… So, I don’t see any reason why I should be sitting here and explaining that. I think the selectors have come out and explained exactly what happened,” said Kohli.

Talking about it further, he said, “I was not part of that conversation so… It is what the selectors explained. I think people are putting too much variables into the situation, which is not the case I can assure you of that. He’s still a very integral part of this team and he just feels that in the T20 format, someone like Rishabh can get more chances.”

Assuring that Dhoni’s intention is only to help the youngsters, Kohli said, “He anyway plays the ODIs for us regularly, so… From that point of view, he’s only trying to help the youngsters; nothing that anything that other people are thinking and I as captain can certainly assure you of that.”

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also recently spoke about Dhoni’s exclusion.

“I don’t know what the mindset of the selectors is & I haven’t looked to influence anyone by giving opinions as what happens in dressing room & between captain, coach & selectors should stay within them,” Sachin was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

India registered a clinical nine-wicket win against the Windies in the fifth and final One-day International to clinch the five-match series 3-1 in Thiruvananthapuram. A combined bowling effort, led by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja tore apart the Windies batting order, bundling the visitors for 104 in 31.5 overs. Chasing a paltry target, India completed the run-chase in 14.4 overs.

Kohli, post the emphatic series win, termed the victory as a combined effort. The skipper also asserted that performances in all the three departments were clinical throughout the series and that has boosted the morale in the dressing room.

“Turned out to be that way. Because of our clinical performance, we were able to finish the game in a few hours. Credit to the bowling unit, pitching it in the right areas. Wanted to bowl first anyway. Blessing in disguise. Still had to execute our plans. Last both games have been clinical, very professional with ball and bat. Change-room atmosphere is very important, and when you play like that, the energy is always good. Everyone wants to be part of it,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

Ambati Rayudu and Khaleel Ahmed were the highlights of the series for India. Praising the duo Kohli said, ” Khaleel has been outstanding. Rayudu has also taken responsibility at No.4. God forbid anything happens to Bhuvi or Bumrah, good to have Khaleel who can come in and take wickets. Those two areas we’re looking at. And those two have been addressed,” Kohli added.

India and the Windies will next face each other in the three-match T20I sereis scheduled to start from November 4.

MS Dhoni A Certainty For World Cup 2019 With Tricky Road Ahead Of Him

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar feels Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli will need MS Dhoni in the 2019 World Cup.

Sunil Gavaskar added that Virat Kohli will greatly benefit from having MS Dhoni in the team for the World Cup. “Virat needs (Dhoni),” Gavaskar said in his analysis on Star Sports, as quoted by ICC cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar opined that MS Dhoni’s advice and experience will come in handy for Virat Kohli in the 50-over format. “There’s no doubt about it. In 50 overs where there is that much more time, that’s when MSD comes into play. You know he makes those small field adjustments, talking to the bowlers in Hindi – telling them where to bowl and what to bowl. It’s a huge plus for Virat”, he said.

Dhoni was rested for the three-match T20I series against the Windies and Australia. Rohit Sharma will be leading the 16-man India squad for the T20I series against the Windies in absence of Virat Kohli. Dhoni was excluded from both the T20I squads with youngster Rishabh Pant set to don the gloves. Chief selector MSK Prasad quickly moved to dispel talk of Dhoni’s retirement, assuring fans that this was not the end for the former India captain in T20Is.

However, MSK Prasad made it a point to say that the selectors are looking at backup options behind the stumps.

“Dhoni is not going to play the 6 T20Is because we’re looking at the second keeper slot. It is not the end of Dhoni in T20Is,” said chief selector MSK Prasad.

India have played a total of 104 T20I matches since the format’s debut in 2006 and Dhoni has been part of 93 of those matches. Dhoni, who led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2007, has scored 1,487 T20I runs at an average of 37.17 and a strike-rate of 127.90.

Believe It or Not: MS Dhoni Has Been Dropped From T20 Series

The Indian selectors pulled off a major surprise by leaving out MS Dhoni from the T20I series against the Windies and Australia.

The BCCI on Friday night announced the India squad for the Twenty20 international series against the Windies (home) and Australia (away) with skipper Virat Kohli being rested for three matches against the Caribbean outfit. But there was another big name missing from the list: MS Dhoni.

Dhoni was excluded from both the T20I squads with youngster Rishabh Pant set to don the gloves. Chief selector MSK Prasad quickly moved to dispel talk of Dhoni’s retirement, assuring fans that this was not the end for the former India captain in T20Is.

The news of Dhoni’s exclusion soon went viral on social media and fans came in their numbers to express their displeasure at the decision.

With the next T20 World Cup in 2020 in Australia, former players and cricket pundits felt that this could be the end of the road for Dhoni in T20Is.

However, MSK Prasad made it a point to say that the selectors are looking at back-up options behind the stumps.

“Dhoni is not going to play the 6 T20Is because we’re looking at the second keeper slot. It is not the end of Dhoni in T20Is,” said chief selector MSK Prasad.

Dhoni has hit two half-centuries and also has 54 catches and 33 stumpings to his name in T20 international cricket.

Mir, a right-arm off-break bowler, on Tuesday had topped the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ODI Women’s bowlers’ rankings with 663 points, with Australia’s Megan Schutt (660 points) and South Africa’s Marizzane Kapp (643) trailing her.

The Pakistan off-spinner had taken to Twitter to express her joy at this momentous achievement. She wrote, “This is a team effort of support staff and players who have helped me excel.” In another tweet, she further added, “I would also like to thank ICC for providing us regular opportunities to play with the big teams through ICC women Championship and to coach Mark Coles, who chose to look at my skill rather than my age.”

The 32-year-old was recently part of the Pakistan team that took part in the ICC Women’s Championship Series. Although Pakistan went down 0-3 to Australia, she performed exceedingly well by picking crucial wickets in all three encounters (3/26, 1/37 and 3/53).

My Style Of Captaincy Is Similar To That Of MS Dhoni, Says Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma said that he learned the tricks of the trade from the World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni.

Rohit Sharma led India to their seventh Asia Cup title on Friday in Dubai. Playing Bangladesh in the final, the Indian team won in the last ball of the final match. India maintained their unbeaten streak in the recently-concluded six-nation tournament.

Rohit said that he learned the tricks of the trade from the World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni. In a post-match conference, Rohit said that when it comes to calmness and taking decisions his style of captaincy is similar to that of Dhoni.

“Whatever I have seen of him (Dhoni) leading the side for all these years, he never panicked, took time while taking decisions. There are those similarities in me too,” Rohit said in a post-match conference.

“I also try to first think and then react. Yes, 50-over gives you time but still you need to take time as well. I have learned this from seeing him (Dhoni), we have played for so many years under his captaincy,” Rohit further added.

Impressed with the captaincy, coach Ravi Shastri said Rohit was a calming influence and it reflected in his captaincy.

“Rohit was a calming influence and it showed in his captaincy. To keep his intensity going even after the start they (Bangladesh) had shown he was really cool in every aspect of captaincy,” Shastri said.

The coach said India’s biggest gain from the Asia Cup was the high standards of fielding the players have displayed all throughout the tournament.

“I liked the intensity with which we played, we were a bit flat against Hong Kong in the first match, but pulled up afterward. The biggest plus was the fielding, game after game, we saved around 30-35 runs in these oppressive conditions,” Shastri observed.

Shastri also credited the bowlers for their spirited performance throughout the tournament.

“We took wickets consistently and during the middle-overs, the bowlers were outstanding, we bowled well with the new ball in tough conditions and then the spinners came to the party,” Shastri remarked.

Asia Cup Final: India Beats Spirited Bangladesh & Registers Many Unheard Records

Champion India retained the  Asia Cup with a three-wicket win off the last ball against a fighting Bangladesh who were anchored by a maiden hundred from opener Liton Das in Dubai on Friday. Stand-in India skipper Rohit Sharma praised his players for handling pressure well beside playing quality cricket throughout the tournament.

“We played some good cricket throughout the tournament and this is the reward of all the hard work throughout the tournament”, Rohit said at the post-match presentation. “If you have a team like that, the captain will always look good,” he said.

“I have been part of games like this before and credit to the guys in the middle to handle the pressure and to cross the finishing line was a fantastic effort,” he added.

MS Dhoni is now third in the list for the most number of dismissals in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined. During the Asia Cup 2018 final match between India and Bangladesh, Dhoni became the first Asian cricketer to register 800-plus dismissals in international cricket. He is now third in the list for the most number of dismissals in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined. The Indian superstar is behind South African cricketer Mark Boucher (998) and Adam Gilchrist (905) of Australia.

Dhoni, behind the stumps, collected the ball with ease and made no mistakes as he whipped off the bails in a flash, leaving Mortaza stranded.

Courtesy his exploits in the Asia Cup final, Dhoni (184) has now extended his lead for most stumpings in international cricket. Dhoni is followed by Kumar Sangakkara (139) and Romesh Kaluwitharana (101) in the list.

On the other hand, commenting on the match, Bangladesh captain  Mashrafe Mortaza said, “We bowled really well, particularly if we made 240+. We asked the batsmen to make at least 260, but at the end of the day the bowlers did really well.”

“I wanted to bowl the quicks first because I wanted to restrict the runs since they were going after us and trying to play shots at that stage,” he added.

It was India’s seventh Asia Cup Title.
