Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan confesses to IPL betting before Thane Police

Bollywood actor -producer Arbaaz Khan arrived at the Thane anti-extortion cell office on Saturday morning to record his statement in connection with an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting case.

The cell had on Friday issued summons to actor Salman Khan’s brother, asking him to record his statement in connection with the alleged multi-crore betting racket.

“Arbaaz has come and we are recording his statement ,” Pradeep Sharma , senior police inspector with the anti-extortion cell said.

Arbaaz was summoned days after the arrest of a bookie Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Batla, who allegedly operated in the country as well as abroad.
During the investigation, a “connection” between Jalan and Arbaaz was established, said Pradeep Sharma, Senior Inspector and head of the AEC, yesterday. The two are said to have known each other for over five years.

“During investigation, it was found that Arbaaz was being threatened by Jalan”, Sharma said.

According to police, Arbaaz is alleged to have placed, and lost, a bet on an IPL match last year. Jalan had allegedly been threatening Arbaaz to pay up.

“We have found photos and chats that show Jalan and Khan (Arbaaz) were in touch,” said Sharma.

“ Actor Arbaaz Khan placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons + through Jalan. In those days, Jalan was working with a big bookie who went by the name Junior Calcutta. Subsequently, too there was a huge transaction between Jalan and Khan. Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed. But all this will be probed once Khan gives his side of the story,” a senior officer associated with the probe said.

While a police source said Khan may have paid over Rs 3 crore to Jalan, inspector Pradeep Sharma, who is leading the probe into the IPL betting racket, told, “Nothing concrete can be said on this as of now. We need to corroborate it with evidence and statements of those who are linked with the racket.”

IPL 2018: Sunil Narine’s participation in IPL in Doubt after Bowling action Reported in PSL

Narine, who has played six Tests, 65 ODIs and 48 T20Is, was first reported for an illegal action during the Champions League in India in 2014.
Ahead of the start of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, Windies spinner Narine faced a big blow when his bowling action was again reported during the PSL T20 tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Narine is playing for Lahore Qalandars and his name was placed on the warning list but can participate in the event.

“Narine has been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action during Wednesday’s PSL T20 game between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at Sharjah,” said a Pakistan Cricket Board statement as quoted by AFP.

Lahore Qalandars are out of the playoffs and the team will play their last match against Peshawar Zalmi in Sharjah on Friday.

“The match officials’ report on Narine’s bowling action will be sent to Cricket West Indies (CWI) and he will have to go through the process that is followed by the CWI, for suspected illegal bowling actions,” the statement said.

It was not the first time that the 29-year-old has faced suspect action problems after being first reported for an illegal action during the Champions League in 2014. To be on the safer side, he was withdrawn from the Windies squad for the 2015 World Cup and only joined the squad after making changes to his bowling action. And after that, Narine has reported again in an international match in Sri Lanka in November 2016 and his biomechanical tests handed him a suspension as the test proved that his action was beyond the 15-degree limit allowed under the ICC’s rules.

Narine, who has played six Tests, 65 ODIs and 48 T20Is, was first reported for an illegal action during the Champions League in India in 2014.

As a precaution, he was withdrawn from the Windies squad for the 2015 World Cup and only returned after remodelling his action.

Narine has then reported again in an international match in Sri Lanka in November 2015 and was suspended after biomechanical tests proved his action was beyond the 15-degree limit allowed under the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rules.

Narine was only cleared in April 2016 before the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he plays for the Kolkatta Knight Riders.

When BCCI almost lost its site for a meagre sum of this much Amount

BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world, was not able to renew the domain of its official website in time, after which the website went offline.

Website registrars and had put the domain name up for public bidding, receiving seven bids with the highest of USD 270.

The domain was valid from 2-2-2006 to 2-2-2019. The updation date however happened to be February 3, 2018. The board’s website was dysfunctional till Sunday evening and even more embarrassment as the senior national men’s team was playing the second ODI against South Africa at the Centurion.

The BCCI website is an important source of live scores across age categories besides putting up key documents regarding the functioning of the board.

In September, the powerful board bagged a $2.55 billion for granting the IPL media rights to Star Sports. The board also gets the maximum revenues from the ICC, $405 million.

India helped us more than Pakistan says CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board

Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Shafiq Stanikzai says the BCCI’s role in the rapid rise of the game in the strife-torn nation was bigger than the role played by neighbours Pakistan.

Not disregarding the initial support given by Pakistan, Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Shafiq Stanikzai says the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has played a bigger role in the rapid rise of the game in the strife-torn nation.

Afghanistan cricketers trained a lot in Pakistan in their formative years and some of them even picked up the sport in refugee camps on the other side of the border. The team from the war-ravaged nation even made its T20 and ODI debut against Pakistan.

The side has come a long way since then, regularly playing in ICC world events before earning their Test status last June.

Stanikzai feels Afghanistan’s growth has been faster ever since they made Greater Noida their home ground in 2015.

“BCCI’s role has really been immense. Since we moved to India the team has done well. The conditions in India are suiting the team quite well. the support we receive from BCCI has been instrumental,” Stanikzai told PTI.

Asked how he would compare India’s role to Pakistan in his team’s growth, Stanikzai said: “In Pakistan we trained a lot in initial stages. Their (PCB) support was also tremendous.

“But since we moved to India, we have achieved big. We were associates and playing in a lower tier when practising in Pakistan. Since we moved to India we are performing well. We have reached a stage where we are playing with the best.”

“So, comparatively, it is bigger. Financially it is helping us quite a lot. It is cost effective in comparison to playing in UAE.
“Conditions wise too it is good. It is easy to convince other boards to come and play in India. So, from different perspective, it is better to play in India,” said the CEO.

Afghanistan would be playing their maiden Test in Bengaluru from June 14 to 18. The ACB is also close to getting a second home ground in India, most likely in Dehradun.

It is also in talks with the BCCI for facilitating junior tours.

“I have requested the BCCI and they have agreed to support us in junior cricket. Integrate education as well with tours. In principle, we are in agreement. We need to work on the composition of the competition,” he said.

Afghan players in the IPL too have helped spread the sport’s popularity in the country. Last year, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi became the first two players from Afghanistan to be bought at an IPL auction.

“IPL played a huge role in getting the game popular back home. We don’t have just one Rashid Khan, we have so many Rashid Khans in every part of the country,” he added.
