Champions Trophy 2017: Amir Reveals How He Dismissed Virat Kohli In CT Final

Mohammad Amir revealed the strategy behind the dismissal of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.

Pakistan has produced world-class fast bowlers and legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar are a testament to this. Mohammad Amir is another future talent who has performed well for Pakistan in recent times. Speaking on the Voice of Cricket show, Mohammad Amir revealed the strategy behind the dismissal of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Mohammad Amir had seen his teammate Azhar Ali drop Virat Kohli in the 3rd over (2.3) for 5 runs.

Infuriated by the drop, Mohammad Amir got his prized wicket in the next ball after Shadab Khan took a blinder of a catch at backward point region. “When Virat Kohli came in, I had bowled an inswing delivery and he was beaten. Rohit Sharma was also dismissed off an inswinging delivery too. He was dropped earlier and I thought if he stuck around, he will take India towards victory. So I prayed to god for his wicket and the next ball I got his wicket after Shadab Khan took a brilliant catch”, he said.

When asked about his most special wicket out of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli, Amir chose the former. “Both. They’re both big batsmen. Tendulkar I will say because when I was playing then, I was new to the team. So Sachin’s wicket was special for me.”

Barring Hardik Pandya (76), the Indian batsmen faltered in the run-chase after a stupendous bowling show by Pakistan pacers Amir (3/16) and Hasan Ali (3/19). India were eventually bundled out for 158 runs in 30.3 overs.

“Hardik” Happens in Trent Bridge, England collapses for 161

There is a new hero in England and its captain’s favorite hardik pandya. The lad gave his best performance of all time in a match that could be the disaster decider for Captain Kohli’s side.

Despite not being able to impress with his performance, hardik was in the playing list and Nottingham witnessed while he proved his worth in the team and took the English batsmen head on. Pandya became the second fastest Indian to take a five-wicket haul when he took just 29 balls to rattle the hosts. Harbhajan Singh is the only other bowler to take five wickets in fewer balls for India than Hardik Pandya’s 29 balls on Sunday.

Pandya produced an inspired spell of bowling to record his best figures in Test cricket. Pandya had come under criticism earlier for lack of contributions with the ball and for failing to justify his position in the Test team with the bat. Before the start of the third Test, Michael Holding had come out and questioned Hardik Pandya’s place in the Indian team. He had said that Pandya is not yet the all-rounder India wants him to be, because he is ineffective as a bowler and also not scoring enough runs with the bat.

Incidentally, Pandya was the second highest run-scorer in the Indian side after the first two Test matches of the series – both which India lost.

“The wedding will take place in Meerut and will be attended by family and close friends. But we want Bhuvneshwar’s teammates and members of the board to also take part in celebrations, which is why we will have a reception in Delhi for them,” Bhuvneshwar’s father Kiran Pal Singh was quoted as saying by Indiatimes.

“We are sure everybody will attend it because the entire team will be in Delhi from November 30 for the Sri Lanka series.”

While the wedding ceremony will be a private one, attended by close friends and family only, the Bulandshahr event will include the extended family of the couple as well.

The final function in the capital will host the glitz and glamour of the cricketing fraternity with the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin set to attend amongst other teammates.

Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) are also likely feature in the final innings of Bhuvneshwar’s wedding proceedings.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the second Indian player to get married this year after former pace bowler Zaheer Khan too announced his wedding with ‘Chak de India’ actress Sagarika Ghatge. Zaheer will tie the knot on November 27 in Mumbai.

India are set to host Sri Lanka in a three-match Test series, starting November 16. Bhuvneshwar might miss the second Test beginning of November 24 due to his nuptials. However, there has been no confirmation of the same.
