Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced elections schedule for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh.
While the casting of vote will begin from 9th of November, counting of the same will be on 18th of December.
With the announcement, the model code of conduct is implemented in both of the states and will be effective till the process of elections get completed.
In the backdrop of losing series of elections in states, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh-led Congress party is bracing to face a tough fight from the BJP.
Interestingly, assembly elections are also due in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home turf Gujarat, the ruling party has high stakes and is looking to retain power for a fifth term in a row. The party is being led by incumbent Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in the state.
While Himachal Pradesh will witness elections earlier than Gujarat, both the states will see a direct contest between the Congress and the BJP with a limited role for smaller parties like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat.
The elections, which are likely to be held over the next two months, would come almost at the same time as the winter session of Parliament and is likely to have an impact on it.
While campaign has already begun in both the states, Gujarat is already in a high-pitch poll mode with both Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi holding a series of public meetings and setting the stage for the upcoming polls.
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won 36 out of the 68 seats with a vote share of 42.81%, while BJP won 26 seats with 38.47% vote share.
While the term of the current assembly in Himachal Pradesh ends on 7 January next year, that of Gujarat ends on 22 January next year.
The Congress on Saturday divested general secretary Mohan Prakash of the charge of Madhya Pradesh, appointing Deepak Babaria in his place.

Hailing from Gujarat, Babaria is a close confidant of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He will be assisted by two secretaries – Zubair Khan and Sanjay Kapoor.
Prakash had come under severe criticism over his style of functioning. The state leaders had repeatedly complained to the party high command that he had failed to revive the party in Madhya Pradesh where the Congress has been out of power since 2003.
Prakash, however, continues to hold charge of Maharashtra.
Congress sources said the leadership has also finalised a new chief of the state unit in Madhya Pradesh to take on the ruling BJP in next year’s assembly elections. The party is expected to announce the name of PCC chief and the new team soon.
In a shocking incident that surfaced from Allahabad, some of the Congress leader writes a letter with blood.
Protesting against the alleged false play in the ward election, Congress leaders alleged that rules were looked on the reservation front.
Congress leaders also demanded that there should be the use of ballot paper over EVM after it was alleged that EVMs can tampered.

Setting a political agenda, and to gain a lead against their competitors, mainly BJP, Uttarakhand government is betting their eyes on Muslim voters. The state, which is going to polls next year, is seeing political tremors in the region.
Harish Rawat government, on Saturday, chaired a high-profile meeting with their members of the party on a decision to give 90-minute break to the government employees from the Muslim community. The meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Harish Rawat, decided a special break from 12:30 pm till 2:00 pm to be given to the employees from the community.
Taking the tough stance on the decision taken by Harish Rawat-led congress government; BJP accuses congress party of playing caste politics in order to woo Muslim community in the state. The state has 13.94 percent Muslim voters which according to political pundits may play a big factor in upcoming state elections.
It remains to be seen how much this move will help the Rawat led government in upcoming elections or if other state leaders were planning to add ‘extra’ leave to appeal Muslim voters in their states too.
Uttarakhand Assembly Election Schedule 2017 would be announced by Election Commission of India around December 2016 and Elections should take place by Jan-Feb 2017.
After the congress party son-in-law Robert vadra now US newly elected president Donald Trump also provided the bow of his administration to his son-in-law Jared Kushner so many things are going very equivalent in both the political party.
Recently Donald trump has batted against the wrong allegation i.e. He is trying to get top-secret security clearance for his children, he said in an interview that he had not filed any request for his family special secret security and called it typically the false news story but the same doesn’t lies with his son-in-law Jared Kushner, the smiling sphinx like presence that propelled Mr. trump to victory and is now seen as the kingmaker of policies in the president-elect administration.
Mr. Kushner, 35, was named by Mr. Trump alongside retired general Michael Flynn as his staff-level companions for the daily presidential briefings, according to NBC News, which began on Tuesday.
Mr. Flynn has the necessary security clearance, but Mr Kushner needs to have his approved – something which could take weeks.
Now he will be called as the ‘DEAR LEADER’ of the trump presidential administration.
“Like the genie out of the jar, she comes out to grant wishes.” Priyanka Gandhi, the influential “face” of Congress in elections, is all set to be the chief campaigner of the UP elections. Why is it that the party plays her out as a trump card during elections to gain the attention of the youth rather than making her the actual face of the triumph.
Why is it that her role is restricted to places? Be it Amethi or Rae Bareilly. And now UP. It’s time that she steps up and perhaps replace Rahul Gandhi whom many proclaim has failed to accomplish what was necessary. Party secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad says that he wants Priyanka’s role to be expanded. While there were others from the opposition taking a dig at her.
The major concern at this point of time is the involvement of a leader like Priyanka Gandhi and its extents concerning the youth and the public in general. Till when she’ll be just a face is what raises eyebrows and has Rahul Gandhi actually failed?
All this Congress “Family Affairs” brings about a matter of concern. Apart from the political turmoil, do they have any existence whatsoever? The cork in the water here is that Are these elections a battle of wits and leaders or a vie of faces?
