Visually and hearing impaired people in India will now be able to enjoy Aamir Khan’s biggest movie, ‘Dangal’, as telecast rights holder Zee Entertainment Enterprises has decided to use audio description for the audiences.
Audio description conveys the most important visual aspects of the story by providing commentary during natural pauses and moments of silence. It is voice-over narration that explains what’s happening on the screen, including physical actions made by various characters and other important visual elements. The narration is inserted between lines of dialogue. This Audio Description is recorded and made available as a separate audio track that can be selected by the audience on their remote.
Taking the initiative #ZEEForAll, the Indian media conglomerate has decided to provide audiences with a sensory handicap access to entertainment that is currently enjoyed by millions of Indians with sight.
“Zee Cinema will be the first movie channel in India to premiere a film curated for the visually impaired. It will also have subtitles for the hearing impaired audiences,” said Punit Misra, CEO – Domestic Broadcast Business, Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
We hope that the premiere of ‘Dangal’ reaches out to the maximum number of visually and hearing impaired audiences in India. We are also exploring adding the audio description in other Indian regional languages in the future. Just like Aamir gave us the audio description assets for Dangal, we will reach out to all our content partners requesting for the same as we expand the initiative,” he explained.
While in mature markets like the US it is already mandatory by law for all major networks to offer audio descriptions for the blinds, in India, there’s no such law. In fact, no efforts have been made by any private broadcaster so far despite the country being home to 8 million blind, 54.5 million people with low vision, and 62.6 million people with visual impairment, as per the World Health Organisation 2010 report, which makes India home to the second largest visually challenged population globally.
Aamir Khan’s Dangal is on rage in Chinese Box-Office, and there’s no sign is being seen that the film earning will come to a halt. Aamir Khan’s Dangal has reportedly gone on earning Rs 2,000 Crore at the world box office.
According to a report in Forbes, the film is looking at surpassing box-office records of several Hollywood films in China.
The Forbes report reads,
It (Dangal) stands alone as the leggiest film in Chinese box-office history with an opening day multiple of 86x. The closest contender to that record is Zootopia—like Dangal, incidentally, a film funded and distributed by Disney—but Dangal left Zootopia in its dust long ago when it surpassed the animated family film’s multiple of 69x.
According to the film analysts, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has taken over to the likes of Captain America: Civil War, xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, The Jungle Book, Kung Fu Panda 3 and many more.
According to the report, the film’s distribution rights in China expire in a few days, so it may not surpass the box-office records of Avatar and Jurassic World.
Here’s all that the Aamir Khan film has achieved in China so far:
• The fifth highest-grossing non-English film in history
• Highest-grossing live actions sports movie of 2017
• The biggest non-Hollywood film ever released in China
Forbes magazine recently published an article where it is revealed that Aamir Khan’s wrestling drama is the fifth highest grossing non-English movie of all time, beating Baahubali: The Conclusion.
Dangal made a whooping 179.8 (1129 crores) million in China market, more than thrice of what it grossed in the domestic market.
Its global total now stands at over 301 million and the movie is still playing at several theatres in China which mean it’ll easily gross yet another 10-15 million, and could become the 4th highest grossing non-English film of all time.
Apart from Dangal, the top 4 non-English film of all time is, China’s The Mermaid 553 million, France’s The Intouchables 427 million, Monster Hunt (China) 386 million, Japan’s Your Name 354 million.
A few additional Dangal records to consider:
First and only Indian film with an overseas gross exceeding $100 million
First and only Indian film with an overseas gross exceeding Rs. 1,000 crore
First and only Indian film to gross over $150 million in a single territory (China)
Biggest single-film payday ever for an Indian actor (Aamir Khan)
Leggiest film in China’s history (83x opening day gross, and counting)
Most consecutive days in China with a ¥10 million ($1.5 million) gross (38 days)
There are 400 movies in the $300 million box office club—nearly all of them American Dangal’s accomplishments are nonetheless distinct and extraordinary.
How many times did it happen with you when you plan for a movie but it failed due to the house full show? It’s a common thing when you wanted to go for a movie and dropped the plan for the same reason. Now, will you believe if this happens with Aamir Khan? Shocked, right? We were too.
The incident happened with Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan. Yes! While promoting his film in ‘Dangal’ in China, Aamir Khan was left stranded when his film ‘Dangal’ is scheduled to get a screen at the Beijing International Film Festival because of houseful show.
No, we aren’t exaggerating. Koimoi has reported that the screening of Dangal or Shuaijiao Baba got an overwhelming response at the 7th Beijing International Film Festival. They loved it so much that Dangal got a standing ovation. Tickets were sold out and thus the actor couldn’t get some for his guests. Do remember it’s just a festival screening and not a theatrical release which will happen on May 6. You can now imagine how much people loved the film there. Aamir film’s right from 3 Idiots, to P.K., have done raging business at the box office.
The actor had met filmmaker Rob Cohen of the Fast and Furious fame. The screening was attended by Chinese actress Liu Yifei and actor Wu Gang. The actor along with the director of the film Nitesh Tiwari will promote the film in Shanghai and Chengdu.
He does express his thought about China and Chinese people. Here’s What he had said
Aamir Khan’s critically-acclaimed film Dangal seems to have inspired yoga guru turned Ayurvedic entrepreneur, Baba Ramdev. Because on Wednesday, Baba Ramdev flexed some muscles, tightened his grip and defeated the 2008 Beijing Olympic silver medalist Andrey Stadnik in a promotional match for the 2017 Pro Wrestling League (PWL) in New Delhi. Baba Ramdev was sporting his trademark saffron langot and a pair of super cool running shoes.
Before the bout commenced, the Baba performed the Surya Namaskar and then walked on his two hands. He defeated Stadnik 12-0. Describing Baba Ramdev’s moves as “technical”, the Hindustan Times reported that he used various moves such as the take-down, one-leg hold and pinning down. The match being promotional, Stadnik good-naturedly allowed Ramdev to have his way. After about two minutes, Stadnik surrendered.
After winning the match, Ramdev celebrated by shouting, “Bharat mata ki jai! Vande Matram!” In 2016, Ramdev had challenged Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar to a bout on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of his Ashram in Haridwar.
After watching the trailer of ‘Dangal’ we knew Dangal girls Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra can kick butts in but who knew that they are such good dancers as well. Both Fatima and Sanya are gearing up for the biggest debut of the year, and we expect a blast from them.
In the latest twitter video, both Fatima and Sana showing off their killer moves, dancing to the tunes of Beyonce ‘Formation’, Amir and Salman classic ‘Do mastaane chale’ from the movie Andaaz Apna Apna and Justin Bieber’s ‘Where are you now’, we think girls are bonded very well in ‘Dangal’ shooting schedules.
The third track from Aamir Khan’s Dangal is out. Gilehriyaan features Fatima Sana Shaikh who plays Geeta in the film. The video showcases the journey Geeta embarks upon. Sung by Jonita Gandhi, the music is composed by Pritam. Coming from totally different background to adjusting in the city, there’s a lot of changes Geeta experiences. Of course, she is unaware of a lot of things but with a buddy by her side, Geeta is able to accept this new phase in her life. The difference with respect to training and lifestyle for Geeta Phogat takes a drastic change as she gets enrolled in the city’s wrestling school. This song perfectly pictures how Geeta embraces the new changes and accepts all of them. More than that, it’s the sense of freedom that she experiences after constantly being under her father’s set of rules.
Of course, Aamir as Mahavir Phogat is quite insecure about this change, which is very much visible in the song. While Geeta is experiencing the glitzy city life, Babita is still at home, working hard so even she can move out. As kids grow old, somehow, the want and need to explore life and move out pops up in their heads. That very emotion has been beautifully captured in this song. You can see the diversity in the lives of both the girls. Geeta embraces her femininity but still kicks butt in the ring while Babita is still under Mahavir’s roof, relentlessly practicing day and night. With all this happening, we also see how as a father and a coach, these changes are falling harshly on Mahavir.
Aamir Khan’s physical transformation for Dangal has been too extreme, even by his own standards. A behind-the-scenes video tells the story of the actor’s personal dangal with weight. He gained 28 kilos in five months for his wrestler character in the film based on Mahavir Phogat. But his journey there and back is not one for the fainthearted.
What you’re about to read will give you fitness goals for sure, but what’s almost unbelievable, is for an actor to put his health and life through such hardship, all for his passion.
Here is Aamir Khan in a completely new avatar, a stick-wielding ‘Haanikarak Bapu’ from Haryana. The first song from Dangal is out and with its desi beats and clever lyrics, it is a catchy, hummable number.
Sung by Sarwar Khan and Sartaz Khan, the song is a complaint from the young Phogat sisters as their father wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, played by Aamir Khan, starts to train them for their first wrestling bout.
Dangal, is based on the real life of champion wrestlers, Geeta and Babita and their coach father and chronicles their journey from a small village in Haryana to global fame. The trailer, which was released in October had received great reviews.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal is scheduled to hit theatres on December 23.
