Pujara registers a rare record of batting in all 5-days in a Test Cricket

Cheteshwar Pujara on Monday entered an exclusive club when he came in to bat during the Day 5 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka underway at Eden Gardens. Pujara has become the third ever Indian batsman and ninth overall to bat on all five days of a Test.

Pujara came in to bat after the KL Rahul was dismissed off the first delivery of the match on Day 1 and under testing conditions, with rain and bad light playing spoilsport, top-scored for India with 52 off 117 – a knock stretched across three days.

His gritty innings has brought him to the brink of a remarkable record. Pujara will achieve the unique feat of batting on all the five days of the Test when he resumes his innings on the final day unless it is a complete washout.

Then when Shikhar Dhawan departed after a breezy 94 off 116, he walked in to bat late in on Day 4 before returning unbeaten on two.

Pujara becomes the 9th player and 3rd Indian to bat on all the five days of a 5-day Test match. Motganhalli Jaisimha and Ravi Shastri are the only two Indian to have done this before. Interestingly, the two other feats were also recorded at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

List of batsmen to have batted on all five days:

  • ML Jaisimha (India)
  • Geoffery Boycott (England)
  • Kim Hughes (Australia)
  • Allan Lamb (England)
  • Ravi Shastri (India)
  • Adrian Griffith (West Indies)
  • Andrew Flintoff (England)
  • Cheteshwar Pujara (India)
Jaisimha was also the first ever batsman to achieve the feat. Interestingly, all these three knocks have come at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

So, Congratulations Pujara for achieving this memorable record. If you guys too wanna Congratulate Pujara for the same then do share your views on the same in below comment section.
