Dhoni smoothly finishes off! The day when “captain cool” era ended.

On a day when CJI TS Thakur hands over baton to Justice Kehar, controversial Team India skipper MS Dhoni also slips into history. but what a contrasting way to end careers! one will be remembered for cleaning up cricket while later will be remembered for giving new name to betters and spot fixers “sports enthusiasts”

Mahendra Singh Dhobi’s biopic M.S.Dhoni: The Untold Story, which released earlier this year, shows a young Yuvraj Singh’s triple hundred for Punjab annihilating Bihar (Jharkhand was not a separate state then) in the final of the Cooch Behar Trophy in 1999-2000, a premier Under-19 domestic tournament .

In the film, Sushant Singh Rajput, playing Dhoni, explains to his friends that his team lost the match not on the field, but a day earlier on the basketball court, when everyone from his side was overawed by Yuvraj Singh’s swagger and confidence as he walked past them.

This underlines the diffident attitude of lesser teams on the domestic circuit. That was Dhoni and his state team in the early 1990s too. A lot has changed since then—Dhoni’s legend has been built around narratives from the Indian team of how he remained unaffected by the star power of his teammates, some of them among the greatest names in Indian cricket.
Dhoni is considered to be the greatest Indian captain had lead the team in all three formats for over a decade until stepping down as the Test captain to hand the baton to Virat Kohli. Further to that, he was widely acclaimed for his big hitting in the death overs while maintaining a cool head on his shoulders. If that wasn’t enough, he would do the job behind the stumps too with complete finesse. He successfully withstood the immense scrutiny, with a largely emotionless face. The Ranchi superstar has won it all— ICC World T20 in 2007, World Cup in 2011, ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and led the team to the top of the Test rankings in 2009. But now the 35-year-old is approaching the twilight of his career.
So when he bids adieu to the sport and packs his kit permanently, Indian cricket will be posed with another question: Who will be the next Dhoni? Who will fill the big boots of MS?
