Punjab CM Capt. Amarinder Singh announced on Monday that Punjab girls will now get free education from nursery to doctorate level in government level institutions of Punjab. He declared his new move when he was speaking in Vidhan Sabha.
Punjab Government will also introduce free textbooks for all students of government schools, and also nursery and pre-primary classes in government schools from the next academic session.
This initiative is a part of reforms to improve the education quality in Punjab, free internet services in 13,000 primary schools and 48 government colleges is also a part of these new reforms.
Capt. Amarinder said his government would accord the highest priority to school education and, notwithstanding the constraint of resources, seek to increase budgetary support to the education sector, with five new colleges to be set up in the current financial year. Textbooks will be posted online, and thus it will be free for students and parents to download it said Capt. Amarinder Singh.
English medium schools will be started in at least two primaries, high and secondary schools in each block from July onwards, it will be offered as an optional in government schools.
To encourage youths to join armed forces two new sainik schools will be setup in Gurdaspur and Mansa and another institute on the lines of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
