After plans for providing a unique identification number for cows, in the line of Aadhar card, the Modi Government has now come up with a more innovative idea on the ‘gaumata’ issue which has drawn global attention in recent days. The Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now planning to form a separate Ministry dedicated only for the cows. Even as the saffron party continues their desperate attempts to protect the ‘gaumata’, a Ministry dedicated only for the cows might look a bit bizarre to many.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah has asserted that the Modi Government is actually planning to form a new ministry for cows. As reported by The Telegraph, Shah was quoted claiming that there are several recommendations about a cow ministry but the BJP Chief did not specify what the mandate for such would be. Amit Shah’s statement came at a conference in Lucknow, with the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had been advocating a ‘save the cow’ campaign and was reportedly the first to ask PM Modi for such a ministry in 2014.
Interestingly, while Rajasthan is the first state in India to have a ministry for cow welfare, in April the Home Ministry took its focus on cows to a different level. The Home Ministry came up with plans to assign a unique identification number, alike Aadhar, especially for the cows. To add more to it, Gujarat made the laws against cow slaughter even stricter, by raising the sentence for such crimes to life time imprisonment.
Ministry of Cow will need a Secretary (Cow), Additional Secretary (Cow), JS (Cow) and US (Cow). Will all states also have a Ministry of Cow? https://t.co/gpYnKIJdOu

During the 2014 elections when PM Modi came to power with a clear majority of votes, the Prime Minister promised national ban on cow slaughter as a part of his election campaign. However, while the country witnessed several instances of lynching in connection to cow slaughter, Modi came out twice, condemning the incidents in strong words. Lynching in the name of ‘cow protection’ had been a key issue raised by the opposition during the monsoon session of the Parliament, which also lead to frequent disruptions of the parliamentary proceedings.
Days back, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar has claimed that cow meat is poisonous. Speaking in a supportive tone towards the Hindu right wing group’s ideology to save ‘gaumata’, Kumar further claimed that the urine of cow has healing features and can treat terminal diseases like cancer. Citing that 90 percent of the world’s population feeds on cow milk, the RSS leader termed cow as the ‘mother of humanity’ and stated that the cow keeps poisonous things to itself and its products milk and cow dung are vastly beneficial. Attending an event organized by the Forum for Awareness of National Security, Kumar further stated that even the cow dung is beneficial as used by many common men as cement for making houses. Stressing on the fact that cow meat contains poison, he claimed that killing of a cow is not allowed in any religion.
