Woman in Telangana sold her one-month old granddaughter for Rs. 1.1 lakh

Karimnagar: On 28th August an old woman in Karimnagar district of Telangana allegedly sold her infant granddaughter for the amount of Rs 1.1 lakh, said police.

Reportedly, the infant’s parents were married 3 years ago. Both of them were living in Hyderabad. The couple gave birth to their daughter one month ago. She was staying at her grandmother’s place at Veenavanka in the district of Karimnagar, they said.

On Friday, the grandmother allegedly sold the infant as she needed some money.

Then the father complained to the state government’s Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Saturday after knowing all about this.

The committee investigated about the issue and reported an FIR to the police. According to the complaint, Veevanka Police charged the grandmother and the buyer under Juvenile Justice Act.

After that the infant and her mother were sent to Child Care Centre in Karimnagar. Police started to work on the arrest of the grandmother and the buyer.

On August 12, six people were arrested by Habeeb Nagar Police in Hyderabad for selling a two- months old boy for Rs.45,000.
