Shameful! Aunty asked men to ‘rape’ women wearing short dresses at a cafe in Gurugram

On 30th of April, 2019 a video got viral on different social media platforms about how a middle aged woman named Ms. Soma Chakrabarti was confronted by a group of young ladies in Gurgaon, Haryana after she allegedly asked men in a restaurant to rape them as some of them were wearing short skirts. A video which has gone viral on social media shows some young women cornering the older woman and threatening to make her video “viral” if she doesn’t apologise for the rape comment.

The incident took place in a café where a middle aged women started commenting the length of the dress a young girl named Shivani Gupta was wearing. The girl was with her friends who turned and went down to the women. The women then had the audacity to order Shivani Gupta to ‘sit down ‘ again in a tone that was totally unacceptable coming from a complete stranger. Her friends did not comply her if she wanted to say something important. Surprisingly the women asks “Are you comfortable in your clothes” to which Shivani replies “Yes completely” and started to head back to her table. When the women rose her voice and said “ are you comfortable with men staring at your bare thighs” the infuriated women felt it as her duty to moral police them. She further made a statement statements “Its because of girls like you, rape happens in our country”, “You encourage men to rape” this is where girls got uncomfortable and decided to leave .

The furious old lady didn’t stop after the girl name Shivani left the cafe due to her shameless taunts. Aunty further asked all the men in the café to “Please rape women’s who you see wearing short and revealing clothes.” After the incident at the restaurant, Gupta and her friends confronted the woman at a shopping centre nearby where they insisted that she must apologise. And what we see now is the outcome of very brave decision. In the video, Ms. Soma Chakrabarti, the perpetrator, is still in denial, won’t apologise for her heinous statements. However, women are always being blamed and harassed.
