Massive fire break out at office building in Bangladesh, 19 dead

A fire broke out in a high-rise building in the business premises of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. Fire control team is present at the spot to control the fire. Navy and Air Force personnel are also present on the spot for help.

There is a possibility of dozens of people being trapped in the office block of the building located in Banani area. Till now the death troll has reached 19. Some reports have said that some people have been seen jumping out of the building.

‘Dhaka Tower’ said in a reference to Ataura Rahman, an officer in the central control room of Dhaka Fire Service, that the fire in the FR tower at around 12.22 pm was on fire. There are many clothing shops and internet service providers in the building.

According to the local media, people were seen screaming for help from windows and at least six people jumped out of burning building.

Mohammad Rasel, a Duty Officer from Dhaka’s Central Fire Control Room, said, “19 firefighting units are working at the spot. The Navy and the Air Force of Bangladesh have also been engaged in controlling the fire.”

Helicopters dropped water from the top of the burning building while hundreds of stranded relatives and friends gathered  outside the building. In the TV footage, there seems to be a lot of smoke rising above the building.

A month ago, 78 people were killed and more than 50 people were burnt to death due to a fire in a building and a chemical warehouse in the Chaukabazar area of ​​Dhaka.
