In India birth of a new baby is celebrated as an occasion. Long lost relatives also come over to your place to see and bless the new born baby. Sweets are being distributed. But it is not always the case with everyone.
Khalida Begum (35), an woman from Katihar, gave birth to a son with a rare condition on Monday night but refused to nurse him when she saw him. She even refused to breastfeed the yet to be named baby boy. The doctors have diagnosed him with a rare genetic condition called Harlequin Ichthyosis also confirmed symptoms of Anencephaly.
Anencephaly is the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp that occurs during embryonic development. With very few exceptions, infants with this disorder do not survive longer than a few hours or possibly days after their birth.
‘Several body parts of the baby is not completely developed,’ she told local reporters. ‘When I saw the baby after delivery for the first time, I was completely shocked to see the alien-looking boy.
‘I couldn’t believe that I had a delivered an alien-like boy. I was so shocked and saddened by this that I asked the midwife to take the baby out of my sight. The mother of four was quoted as saying.
Roughly three pregnancies in every 10,000 are affected by anencephaly, while only five UK children are born annually with Harlequin Ichthyosis.
Not to be surprised, the villagers tagged the baby as supernatural and even called him an incarnation of Lord Hanuman. Rather than asking the parents of the baby to nurse and treat him well, the natives started endorsing the baby as a gift from the God. This happens surely because of lack of education and the ignorance for it.
