Sounds weird ! Gurugram District administration is visiting every Liquor shop to measure the distance from National Highway.

Gurugram district administration seems to have ample of free time these days, either they have solved all the grievances of Gurugram or they have nothing to do.

As officials measured the distance with the help of a three wheeler, which started measuring the distance from NH-8.The three-wheeler  is equipped with a digital meter.

A verdict recently given by Supreme Court on banning liquor vends within 500 metres of national and state highways from April 1.

Following this, Gurugram District administration on Tuesday started the proceedings of  measuring the motorable distances between bars and national highways.

Owing to SC judgement Cyber Hub of Gurugram has succeeded in putting nearly 1.8km between its entry gates and NH8,

Gurugram deputy commissioner Hardeep Singhhas constituted a team, lead by deputy excise and taxation commissioner (east) Aruna Singh, which has measured 10 prominent five-star hotels and bars situated near NH-8.

As per senior official, the team has measured Hotel Leela Kampinski in Ambience Mall, Hotel Oberoi and Trident in Udyog Vihar, Westin at Iffco Chowk, Crown Plaza at Signature Tower Chowk and pubs and bars situated at cyber hubs.

Officials measured the distance with the help of a three wheeler, which started measuring the distance from NH-8.The three-wheeler  is equipped with a digital meter.

The hotels which were measured  are close to Delhi-Gurugram expressway (NH-8). There are more than 40 high-end restrobars in cyber hubs situated near Sankar Chowk.

Hardeep Singh , deputy commissioner of Gurugram told a English daily  “We have measured motorable distance from edge of the national highway to entry of the commercial establishments. The calculation in the measured areas will be produced before dedicated committee which will be recommended to state government. Till the time, it will not disclose in public domain,”

In the first phase, the team is concentrating on NH 8 and it will measure other commercial outlets which are holding licences of serving alcoholic beverages. In second and third phases, the team will calculate MG Road, Gurugram-Sohna Road, Gurugram-Pataudi Road and Gurugram-Jhajjar Road.

He also added “We have measured all the affidavits submitted by commercial establishments holding liquor licences.”

The distance was gauged according to the route mentioned in the affidavits However, we have been concentrating on our own mechanism to find out any shortest route available or not,” Singh said.
