Shocking: Tamilnadu teacher sexually harassed a 15-year old student.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested by police for allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.

The accused has been identified as B Shankar Subramaniam, a resident Ananda Nagar at PN Pudur area of the city. 

According to a report in Times of India, Subramaniam, who returned from Canada recently after 15 years, had been giving English language coaching classes at various private schools in the city.

According to the victim, the accused touched her inappropriately on the pretext of helping her. The victim, a 14-year-old girl, comes from a troubled family and the accused offered to help her. 

The accused even visited the victim’s home on several occasions and befriended her mother. The matter came to light after the girl approached the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), who in turn alerted the police.

Earlier, the victim had attended various awareness events conducted by CWC about crimes against children and women.   

Police have now booked the accused under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Police have also charged the accused under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

He was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody. The accused has now been lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison. 

The accused was settled in Canada before returning to India two years ago after his daughter and wife were killed in an accident in that country.
