Shocking! Deoband should be renamed Devrad. Demands BJP’s new elected M.L.A. Where is this country going?

Mafia turned BJP Neta Brijesh Singh who won the Muslim-dominated Deoband assembly seat in Shahjahanpur district for the Saffron party nearly after two decades wants Deoband to be renamed Devrad. He sparked an unwanted controversy on Thursday by making such bizarre claims.

‘The city was known as Devbrad during the Mahabharata era and the Pandava brothers spent their one-year incognito exile here. But later the name was changed to Deoband after the Darul Uloom Deoband school was set up here.’ He was quoted as saying. He stresses why should the place be named after a school when its historical relevance goes back to the time of Mahabharata. He even notified that he will take up this issue in the State assembly.

It is not a Hindu-Muslim issue said the BJP MLA by giving Historical proof. He went on to say Darul Uloom Deoband School is just a University like BHU thus the place can’t be named after the school.

I don’t know if Muslims as a whole voted for me or not. But many Muslim women has voted for me because of the BJP’s stand against Triple Talaq. Exclaimed Singh when he was asked about how he managed to pull out a victory in a Muslim-dominated constituency.

This is not the first time that a BJP leader has raised the issue of changing the name of a particular place or town. It seems some BJP leaders are not happy with the existing names of several towns and roads pan India. Aurangzeb Road was renamed as APJ Abdul Kalam road in Delhi after BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi initiated the move. Gurgaon was renamed Gurugram after the Saffron Party came to power in Haryana. Yogi Adityanath, the Gorakhpur MP renamed Islampur, a small village in his Lok sabha constituency, as Rampur. Even the RSS has voiced that Amahadabad should be renamed as Karnavati. There are many other examples of BJP’s obsession with changing names of various towns and roads.

The interesting part is that every time you ask for reasons they site historical relevance. The opposition parties claim that BJP is trying to play the communal card by changing the names of the places which symbolize Islam anyway. They are trying to impose the rotten agenda of Hindutva everywhere.

Let’s see if Deoband MLA’s demands will be met or not.
