Guwahati: A man died and several other protesters got injured as police allegedly opened fire at North Tripura after the protest took a violent turn. The shutdown has been in the place since November 16.
According to the sources, one personnel died in the police firing, however his death is yet to be confirmed.
Reportedly, the agitators started pelting stones at police officials and blocked the National Highway 8 in Panisagar town which is 4 hours north of state capital Agartala.
The protests were going against the resettlement of displaced Bru migrants in Kanchanpur sub- division which was a project settled by the Home Minister Amit Shah.
23 years ago, the tribal Bru community had fled to neighbouring state Mizoram following ethic strife in Tripura.
