Speaking about the murder of his close friend journalist Gauri Lankesh, veteran actor Prakash Raj not only slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their silence and inaction on the murder.
Speaking at the 11th state meet of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Bengaluru, Raj went on to say, “I knew Gauri for 30 years. In a sense, we were all children of (P) Lankesh, her ideologies, and way of life. I never dreamt that this day would come. We were taught to be honest citizens, who would never seize to raise one’s voice. In fact, I don’t think anyone voiced their opinion more than P Lankesh himself. This was how we were taught to be. It is astonishing to see where we have come to today.”
He launched a scathing attack on Yogi who he branded as a bigger actor than him and went on to add that he is considering to give out his five national awards to Yogi. He took the same jibe at Modi too saying that there were much more worthy actors than him in the government “When you look at the kind of statements he (Adityanath) makes, you don’t understand whether he’s a Chief Minister or a priest. He (Adityanath) is a better actor than me. I think I must give out all my five national awards to him.” said a clearly angry Raj.
Raj who knew Gauri Lankesh since a long time has time and time again expressed his displeasure at the government’s way to handle the case. Gauri Lankesh, a critic of right-wing ideology was shot as she returned home early in September from her office in Bengaluru. Any significant breakthrough is yet to be made into the case.
