In Uttar Pradesh, as many as five lakh aspirants, including graduates and post graduates, have applied for 3,275 posts of ‘safai karamchari’(sweepers) in Kanpur Municipal Corporation. The corporation had released an employment notification for the post of sweepers on contractual basis, of which 1,500 are for general category and rests are meant for reserved categories. There is no educational qualifications are required for the posts. When it comes to government jobs, we understand the fad among the youth who look for a safe career. Therefore it is not surprising when we hear that for a single post of clerk or any other posts, thousands of candidates have applied. But it comes as a surprise when graduates and post graduates applicants apply for class IV category posts.
While no educational qualifications are required for the posts, municipal officials have been overwhelmed by the number of highly qualified applicants so far and they are expecting the number of applications to touch seven lakh. Same case like this was reported in January when around 17,000 youth have applied for 114 posts of sweepers in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. There’s actually no educational qualifications required for the posts, surprisingly MBAs, B Techs, BSc are ready to work as a sweeper at a salary of Rs 17,000 per month. The Uttar Pradesh government has put the selection process on hold after sweeper’s organisation demanded that “safai karmachari” post be reserved only for the Valmiki community.
In the Bhatinda district also, as many as 8,500 applications were received for 19 posts of class IV. The applicants were MBA, MCA degree holder. This is not a failure of Applicants posts or higher degree holders but it’s actually a failure of Government, It’s okay to read about and thinks why such higher degree holders applied for ‘Chaprasi’ post but this type of news show how big an ‘Unemployment’ issues really is, If higher degree holder got selected than what happened to communities like ‘Valmiki’ and if they do not get selected than why they applied for the posts in the first place?
