IIT Bombay Awarded Students ”Digital Avatars” at Virtual Convocation

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay held its 58th annual convocation ceremony on Sunday in an animated virtual reality mode in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

While  the students couldn’t have been able to present for the convocation  due to pandemic, IIT Bombay quite impressively came up with the idea of the personalized avatar of each graduate receiving the degree certificate from the personalized animated avatar of the Director Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri

 Professor Duncan Haldane, a Nobel Prize winner(2016) in Physics was the Chief Guest during the ceremony. World renewed investor and CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone Stephen Schwarzman was the Guest of honor.  Over 2000 students participated in the ceremony from their homes and had their first e-avatars walk to the stage to receive degrees and medals from the virtual avatars of the dignitaries.

 IIT Bombay said in a statement that they did not want their students to be deprived of the joy of graduating from the Institute and providing virtual reality experience to their graduates would uplift then as well as other engineers in the country to think big and innovatively.

The IIT Institute also provided students with an opportunity to walk around the campus and visit their faculty and friends virtually. Meanwhile
Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with more than 6.7 cases so far.
