The Railway Board initiated an inquiry against HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar’s private secretary Vinay Srivastava on the allegations of attaching an extra coach to Padmavati Express.
Mr Srivastava, a 1992-batch Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers official made this seat request between Lucknow and Delhi railway station who was travelling with his family including his wife and two children. The train number of which reads 19207.
The adding up of the coach was done on request of the minister’s staff. The demand ended up fastening a spare carrier at the last split second causing chaos at the Lucknow railway station on Saturday.
The Railway Ministry along with Mr Srivastava straightway denied the allegations. On this, the Northern Railway chief public relations officer Neeraj Sharma pronounced that it was a mere clash of events. The coincidence occurred because of the festive rush season.
Mr Sharma added on how the addition of the coach is a routine affair, “The Railway Board has decided to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Due to the festival rush, passengers were troubled to get a confirmed ticket. This was an attempt to accommodate the passengers.”
“It was a sheer coincidence that one of the passengers was HRD Minister’s private secretary. The booking for the extra coach was announced at the ticket counter,” the officer orated.
The Railway officials, however, have failed to validate the point that why a single coach of half AC first class and half two-tier seats was attached to accommodate the crowd instead of a three-tier AC coach.
