The Telangana Congress has invited former parliamentarian and cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin to contest the Assembly elections in 2019.
Confirming Azhar’s participation in the election, State Congress president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday said that they are inviting him.
The proposal came up after the former Team India captain expressed his readiness to play an active role in Telangana.
At a public event in Hyderabad, Azharuddin expressed his thoughts, “If we work together again, the Congress will form the government in Telangana.”
Reddy replied promptly: “I am inviting you, in Telangana, whichever – MP or MLA – you want to contest. We will call you to contest.”
Mr Azharuddin, who hails from Hyderabad, had earlier served as Congress MP from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.
He also unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Rajasthan.
