The eminent gastroenterologist from Bombay Hospital was missing for 36hours since Tuesday as he left from the hospital. His body was found in Worli by Mumbai Fire Brigade search team on Thursday morning.
Based on the description, the 58-year-old doctor was last seen near the junction at India Bulls Centre in Parel during the August 29 deluge in the city, the Mumbai Fire Brigade team have been carrying out the search operations in the manholes of the area.
Confirming the development to My Medical Mantra DCP Rajiv Jain said ,” Dr Amarapurkar’s body has been found stuck in the outer gate of drainage pipeline opposite Coast Guard Head Quarter in Worli. We have identified his body. More details are awaited.”
The body, after identification, was sent to LTMG Sion Hospital for post mortem.
Speaking to My Medical Mantra ACP Sunil Deshmukh said ,”Body has been sent to Sion Hospital for PM. Dr Amarapurkar must have been slipped into a manhole on Tuesday. The reason of death will be known after PM.”
On August 29, after finishing seeing patients at Bombay Hospital, Dr Amarapurkar had left around 4:30 pm for home at Prabhadevi.
Due to waterlogging in Parel area near India Bulls Centre One, Dr Amarapurkar asked his driver to get the car home and he started walking. He then called his wife to inform her of his whereabouts around 6.30pm.
