The Thackeray scion has proposed to set up a cultural hub at the Kala Ghoda precincts to enable artistes and performers stage their shows there. Aditya Thackrey announced this new idea via his twitter handle. The initiative by Mr. Thackrey is being lauded by most of the youngsters as who does not want a Times Square in their own city!!?

As Aaditya Thackrey leads the Yuva Sena, his plans are also innovative, fresh and he has taken all the measures to avoid hustle bustle in the area.

The shows would be held on Sundays and public holidays. For this, traffic in the entire locality will be kept closed. The Kala Ghoda area – known for its art galleries and museums – is the also venue of he Kala Ghoda festival.

Mr Thackeray met BMC chief Ajoy Mehta on Thursday to discuss developing Kala Ghoda into a cultural hub.
The municipal commissioner told him that a decision could be taken only after checking all the legal aspects of the proposal.

According to the proposal, Kala Ghoda will be developed on the lines of Times Square. Two roads in the Kala Ghoda area and a road opposite Asiatic Library have been identified for this purpose. There are also plans to make this area pedestrian-friendly by creating a pedestrian walkway.

“We want to make the city’s roads pedestrian-friendly, for which we have identified some roads on a pilot basis,” Mr Thackeray said.

According to civic sources, Mr Thackeray’s proposal is based on the Union tourism ministry’s plans to develop Kala Ghoda into a cultural hub, with people dressed as “film and cartoon characters” walking around for photo opportunities.

Cheers Mumbai walon! This cultural hub is going to be your new weekend spot soon.
