Actor cum Politician Ambareesh died at an age of 66

Ambareesh was born on 29th may 1952 in the Doddarasinakere village of Karnataka. He died at an age of 66 on 24th November after suffering a heart attack. He was a well-known actor. He had played lead roles in 208 films mostly for Kannada Cinema. His most controversial film was Political satire ANTHA (1980) that depicts political and government officials as corrupt and villains.  ANTHA was then remade into Hindi Cinema starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi.

POLITICAL CAREER :

  • He began campaigning for Indian Nation Congress in 1994 but was denied ticket from the party for two years. Then he decided to join Janta Dal in 1997 and took active participation in the general election.
  • 1997 election was the turning point of his political career. He contested election from Janta Dal Party and defeated INC candidate by 1,80,523 votes.
  • A year later in 1998 after the general election. INC after seeing his popularity offered him the seat in the cabinet during 12th Lok Sabha Term.
  • In 1999 during 13th Lok Sabha election, he took part in the election from INC side and was the winner.

From 24 October 2006 to 2008 he was the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) minister of the state.
