Ayodhya: A gang of fraudsters stole a whopping amount of Rs 6 Lakhs from the bank account of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The donation money was funded for the Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya, said the police officer to HT on Sunday.

Reportedly, the amount was withdrawn by using the clone cheques of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs. 3.5 lakh from the Ayodhya branch of State Bank of India.

“Necessary investigation and legal action being registered by registering the prosecution, here is the byte of the Jurisdiction Officer of Ayodhya Rajesh Kumar Rai.” Ayodhya Police tweeted in Hindi with the video byte of the officer as an attachment.

Kumar revealed that the Trust authorities have the original cheques with the same serial number. The fraud was discovered when Rai got verification from the bank on Wednesday afternoon when third cloned cheque of Rs 9.36 lakh was placed for clearance. Reportedly, two cloned cheques were used to withdraw money between September 1 to 3.

Now, a FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 471 (using forged cheque as original), 468 (forgery for cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 420 (cheating) and 419 (impersonation).
