According to supreme Court live-in- relationship are defined in the mentioned categories. A domestic cohabitation between an adult unmarried male and an adult female, Between married man and unmarried woman, unmarried man and married woman.

Legal status of live-in
In foreign countries the idea of couple relationship are legally recognised but in india it is not the same.
According to apex court, if a man and woman are living together for long period and having children. they will be considered as married and same rules will be applicable for them too.
But, the apex court also say that if two persons are staying together without getting married then it is also not a Criminal offence.

Difference between marriage and live-in relationship
Marriage is accepted by a society. In the divine culture of india there are different procedure which are for different religion. Marriage laws have been created for safe guiding someone’s relationship and life.

There are no rules which are binding the partners for living together. They can freely move one or by mutually deciding move in. There is no legal definition.
