If you watch Porn, ‘Don’t’ watch it with you’re Facebook logged in!

You may have successfully hidden your late-night viewing habits from your partner, but facebook could be watching everything you do, thanks to its clever web-tracking technology. If you’re logged on Facebook and go on an adult entertainment website that has a Facebook plug-in button then it’s likely you’re being tracked!

Now you’ll ask why? Well, this is because the firm collects data about the websites you’re visiting so they can target the ads you see including your taste in porn. According to their data policy, Facebook states: “We collect information when you visit or use third-party websites and apps that use our Services (like when they offer our Like button or Facebook login or use our measurement and advertising services).

“This includes information about the websites and apps you visit, your use of our Services on those websites and apps, as well as information the developer or publisher of the app or website provides to you or us.” In a recent blog post called “Bringing people better ads”, Facebook admitted their users say the ads they see are “annoying, distracting, or misleading”.

They’re currently trying to improve their service to bring you “better ads” but still, track the websites you visit. The good news is if you don’t want your browsing history determining the kinds of Facebook ads you see, there’s a way to opt out, as described in a blog post from Facebook’s chief deputy global privacy officer.

But Facebook will still know if you were on a porn site – it just won’t use that information to serve you ads
