It has been 9 months since novel coronavirus is devastating the globe. However, despite of so much health risk, people are taking safety precautions, from wearing mask to using hand sanitizers, everything is being kept in mind.
More than 130 candidates of COVID- 19 vaccine are under different stages of clinical tests and 38 of them have reached critical human trials.
An observational study in China has suggested that wearing eyeglasses can protect you to contract Coronavirus as a shield. This study was published in JAMA Ophthalmology.
To conduct the study, the doctors of Shuizhou Zengdu Hospital observed 276 volunteers in Hubei and looked for the link between wearing eyewear and some protection from COVID- 19.

Limitations of the study

To know the limitations of the study, JAMA approached epidemiologist Lisa L. Maragakis from John’s Hopkins University School of Medicine in the US to give her commentary to this study.
“This makes difficult to access any incremental of an eye protection in public settings over and above these basic interventions which are now the mainstay of COVID- 19 prevention.” She said.

Conclusion:

Apart from masks and face shields, safety goggles are also an important part of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit.
Eye shields and goggles may help to prevent from aerosols in typical hospital settings.
However, according to the researchers, more study needs to be conducted to understand the detailed connection with COVID- 19 protection and wearing eyewear.
However, people who wear spectacles are mostly prevented from rubbing their eyes due to glass barrier.
But experts think that wearing Safety goggles can increase the risk of contamination by constantly touching and adjusting the glasses.
