Pilgrims coming to Golden Temple were robbed, two arrested

Pilgrims who came to Golden Temple were robbed outside the temple. Police, on Tuesday night arrested two. The thieves robbed mobile phones and cash.

The accused have been identified as Meenakshi Khatri and Vivek Jawala, resident of Vijay Nagar in Delhi. A case has been registered against the duo at Amritsar E-division police station.

The police deployed a special police team when they started getting complaints of theft. The team was led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sardool Singh. During the raid, police found two accused, moving outside the temple searching for more victims.

“Around 7 pm, the accused were seen outside the temple, the moment they saw police they tried to flew but we got hold of them. Three mobile phones and one ladies purse, all amounting to over 1 lakh was found from their possession”, police said.

He further added that they are investigating the case further to know if they are from a bigger gang or not. However, the duo have been arrested and case has been filed under sections 379 (punishment for theft) and Section 411 (dishonesty receiving stolen property).
