The authorities sit and stare while local politicians illegally acquire land worth Rs. 2000 crores! in the National Capital.
When the UPA government passed the order to regularize the unauthorized colonies, it was a ray of hope for the 4 million people missing out on basic amenities, but for the local politicians, it acted as an opportunity to grab and amass huge tracks of land.
An investigation by a magazine reveals how these local BJP politicians have grabbed Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land worth 2000 crores.
Those involved in the land racket is BJP leader Braham Singh a candidate from the Okhla in the 2015 Delhi Assembly Elections and his brother, Bir Singh who is a sitting councilor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and former deputy mayor of South Delhi.
In collusion with officers of the DDA and the Department of Urban Development, Braham Singh and his aides have occupied massive areas of land within the city. The vast stretches of lands are located in: Kotla Mahigram, Abul Fazal Enclave, Radha Krishna Vihar and Madanpur Khadar Extension according to the investigation.
In 2011, Vijay Dev, then divisional commissioner of Department of Revenue, Delhi inquired into the matter.
The inquiry report revealed that the power hungry people of colonies have usurped vast stretches of land. The ‘go-ahead’ certificates that they got from the Department of Urban Development were fake.
The modus operandi of grabbing the land was simple — to project an area as an irregular colony inhabited by slum dwellers in order to get it regularised. All that was needed, was a few contacts in the concerned departments — the DDA and the Department of Urban Development, and bogus applications very simple isn’t it?
Braham Singh owns a land worth 700 crores in Radhe Krishna Vihar, which actually belongs to the DDA according to Khasra (a legal document specifying land details). The area is of 6270 square meters which Braham claims are 67 houses that belong to him and his family on a “bogus list”. But the said area was shown as an unauthorised colony seeking regularisation from the Department of Urban Development by Braham Singh.
On an actual visit to the land it was found to be vacant with only a few shanties covering a miniscule area that was rented out to tea-vendors, garages and furniture traders.
The investigation found that the people on the list were all relatives of Singh and are actually living in well-to-do houses in Madanpur Khadar. Such are the atrocities of these politicians.
